They are great houseguests anyway, but they were exceptionally wonderful then. I literally only had to get up to walk from the bed to the couch and back + trips to the bathroom. They and DH took such good care of me, and letting them do so (hard for me) made life much better. I was still recovering when the in-laws came to visit... They were very considerate about everything so we didn't have any problems. It did help that they stayed at a hotel rather than with us (we just don't have the space). I think you just have to be aware of your own needs and don't be afraid to speak up. Personally, I felt really good after the birth and recovered almost immediately, so I didn't really need to take it that easy.
