I was talking to my LO while looking at new shoes for her.. I was asking her if she was going to ruin them, or grow out of them too fast ... and some lady walked by and chuckled.. :) Love that I have someone to talk to, makes me not feel so weird about talking to myself :)

I constantly talk to him. Best was when we were at target, I had him in the boba carrier and was talking to him about our options for sheets and comforters, and when I left the aisle there was a male employee totally looking at me like I was nuts.

I talk all the time, like a PP mentioned, because NurtureShock stressed it so much. But it was really hard to figure out what the heck to talk to a newborn about, so for a long time (6 months or so), at home, I mostly sang songs I knew the words to. Not that anyone would want to hear me sing (not even my baby, I'm sure)-- but heck, it was one way to keep me saying things to him. Now that X is less of a blob, I can ask questions and narrate what he's doing, all that.

@hummusgirl: hahaha amazing video!

Thanks for the cute comments, totally biased over here and I don't think it ever gets old hearing it from others, thanks everyone :)

This was her first trip in the cart seat as we've switched from infant seat that I used to put in cart, to seat that stays in car, so even though she's not sitting I bundled her in there between her fleece and blankies, she loved it and I got to chat with her more, and totally counted everything we got more than one of as it went into the car like @littlebittyhouse: mentioned!

there's a whole section in the book "nurture shock" about why talking to your LO is good. They also mention that it's not only about talking TO them, but also about responding to their babble within an appropriate window.

I talk to my LO constantly as well. During maternity leave, I would narrate the cars and activity on our street. My DH commented one day recently that it sounds like a Sandra Boynton book. I make a point of talking to him with real words not baby talk. When we visit the inlaws, there might be some language regression because my MIL baby talks to him which annoys the crap out of me.

I guess I always figured it's to help them learn and develop language and cognitive skills for later? I do talk to K, but I have to make a more conscious effort to talk to her more often. She definitely responds to voices and being talked to!

I can't say anything because I have full on, one sided conversations with my dogs. If anybody is going to understand what I am saying less, it's them. But I have always been of the belief, and will be once DD is here, that it is never too early to start to really talk to babies. How else are they going to learn and develop a language?
