Massage/chiropractic care. I've thrown out my back and needed a few days rest 2x since she was born. She's walking now so I'm hoping the hardest days are behind us.

Regular visits to the chiropractor, decompression treatments, physical therapy, and icing/anti-inflammatory meds as needed.

I was in the ER unable to move with a badly herniated and extruding disc when my baby was 3.5 months old. It's taken me 6-7 months to get back to mostly "normal" through all of the above. And yes, I give her baths on the counter and change her on the changing table, but now I'm at a point where I can get down on the floor and play with her. Trying to bend over and hold her hands while she practices walking is still hard. I had to get in the habit of squatting / using my legs to bend over and pick her up out of the floor.

We had good luck with core strengthening and chiropractic care, but I know it depends on why your back is bad.

DH didn't have a bad back before but has had back problems since LO1s arrival. He wears a back support brace now and also we made sure to buy a dresser that was tall enough so DH doesn't have to bend much when changing diapers.
He is coming up with various tricks so he does not have to lift LO1 off the ground like putting LO1s shoes and socks on when he is in his high chair eating instead of trying to do it later when LO1 is playing. LO1 also likes to use a little stool and if he climbs on to the couch, DH will pick him up from there and move him to the changing table or car (wherever he needs to go).

How do you do it?

I don't have a bad back so I can easily do bath tub backs and do diaper changes on the floor.

DH and MIL have bad backs so they can't do that. Our infant tub fits in the kitchen sink so they can stand. For diaper changes, they use the changing table. But now that they are getting squirmy, I have resorted to changing them on the floor because I don't have to worry about them rolling off of it.

So how do you do it?

I have heard from other friends with bad backs that having kids made their backs worse.
