@NorCalWayfarer: Of course, the store itself is worth a visit :) But the gallery and even the view from the terrace outside, is pretty cool too. Have a blast!

And I hope you're journey includes a little bun in the oven. We planned a trip prior to conceiving and hoped that we would also be pregnant by the time we were in Mexico, toes in the sand, hours in the hammock...It was a wonderful trip. I wish the same for you!

@Looch: Thanks! We'll actually be in the NL during this trip too (we lived there for 6 month and never did a canal tour) -- I'll have to make a point of doing a canal tour this time!

The little art gallery in the Louis Vuitton store on the Champs Elysees. It was such a unique experience from the elevator ride upstairs to the show that was on display at the time of our visit. Here's the site for you to see what's on view while you're there:

@TheSwissWifeStyle, @Hummusgirl, @Bamblm: Thanks! I was thinking about venturing out there this time and wondering whether it was worth it to see all the site or just the actual palace. Seems like I'll make a point of seeing it all if we decide to go out there! Bike tour seems like a fun way of seeing it all!

If you go to Versailles, plan to spend a day and see the Petit Trianon and Marie Antoinette's fake hamlet (little farm village). It was one of our favorite parts of the trip. It was way less crowded than the actual palace.

Also the little coffee shops in the McDonald's there-anywhere in Paris, not just Versailles- have very cheap and surprisingly good macarons!

@looch: oh yeah, I second the river tour...we did two while we were there, plus the canal tour. I would skip the canal tour unless you're really into canals/locks.

We always try to do a river tour, it's a great way to see a whole bunch of attractions in a short time and the bonus is you don't have to walk around! The most memorable ones we did were in Paris and Amsterdam.

Berthillon ice cream shop close to Notre Dame. So good. Also Saint-Chapelle has the most amazing stained glass windows if you're into that. And if you've never done the Rodin museum, I thought that was really interesting. (We just did the audio guide) Also it's smaller than most of the museums so not quite so overwhelming.

Sigh....want to go back so bad.

Yeah Versailles is def. worth a trip. And if you're around the Eiffel Tower around the time when they light it up, try to go to a cafe or something outside where you have a good view of it, and watch it light up and sparkle!

Definitely Versailles!

I really enjoyed eating lunch (paninis mostly) from street vendors and exploring the city. A glass of wine here, a glass of wine there . . . :)

We used the book 24 Great Walks in Paris http://www.amazon.com/Frommers-24-Great-Walks-Paris/dp/0470928174/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_1
as a starting point. We do a lot of walking on vacation.

We checked out a lot of churches, Pere-Lachaise cemetery, and a flea market in addition to the major sights. We went to Versailles too, but we didn't see the grandeur of the gardens since it was December... not sure what the gardens will be like in Sept.
We had a good dinner at Le Bistrot d'en Face. I can't remember the other restaurants we went to.

Not a destination reco per se, but if you're pregnant and looking for a nice washroom, the petit palais has really nice ones. You have to go through security to use them, but they're free. And really nice. In case I didn't say that before :)

If you're drinking - I love the bars along rue de lappe near rue de la roquette in the Bastille. Everyone there is super friendly and most of the bars have fun drinks, many with a Latin American theme.

I don't know much to do there that doesn't involve drinking! But now that I'm a momma I'm going to have to figure it out!
Perhaps a side trip to Versailles?

I've been to Paris twice in the past 10 years and am headed back in September. Any off-the-beaten-path recommendations of things to see/do/places to eat/shop?

This will either be our last hurrah pre-baby (lots of wine and soft cheese and pate) or *hopefully* I'll be a couple months pregnant (no wine, soft cheese, or pate).

Thanks!
