We rented from parisflatrent.com when we went in 2010. As far as I know they are still doing rentals. We had a great experience!

@lamariniere: Thank you! Yes, we are going to bring our Uppababy G-luxe for the 2.5 year old. We are hoping the 5 year old will be okay walking. We are trying to go as light as possible because prior to Paris we will be in London and then driving around the French countryside for 2 weeks! Thanks for the tip on the gardens, just checked out their website and it looks divine! DH and I have been to Versailles, probably won't go again, we will get our fill of castles when we are in the Loire Valley.
@erinbaderin: Night cruise sounds so fun! Love that!
@Anagram: Thank you so much for chiming in, I'll check out those sites!
@irene: OMG, so smart to know where the bathrooms are! I was going to bring our potette to have in our backpack for emergencies but looking ahead to see where bathrooms are is good planning!
@JennyPenny: Thank you so much for your great list! I appreciate it! Did you have a blast with your family?

Thank you to all for chiming in, I am so grateful!

We just took our two LOs (3 yr and 3 mo) in August. Here's the list I made of things to do - we didn't get to everything but had a great time:

Cite des sciences and Cite des Enfants
Science and play museum
€9 for adults, free for kids

Bois de Boulogne
Jardin d’acclimation for kids. Has a mini train that runs from Port Maillot
https://www.travelforkids.com/Funtodo/France/paris-city/paris-bois-de-boulogne.htm

Jardins Luxembourg
For walking around or the giant (paid access) playground. Ticket is good for entire day so consider going early.

Eiffel Tower
Montmartre/Sacre Coeur
Champs Elysees/Arc de Triomphe

We stayed in the 18th arrondissement because I love the Sacre Coeur Montmartre area and it worked well for us

We went with DS to Paris when he was 3. We've been there before, so we just strolled around and had a blast.

The first thing that came to my mind is, make sure you have a cognitive map of where the clean bathrooms are and how quickly you can get to them. That would be most dependably the fancy hotels. We had to dash into hotels for potty runs for a few times so it is good to know where they are.

I would say if your 5 year old is on the small side, I would consider bringing a stroller (haha). This is for the jet lag. I remember DS wasn't napping anymore, but he still got knocked out for a few hours in the afternoon because of jet lag. We let him doze off in the stroller while we continue to stroll. We actually enjoyed it because we got to shop around without having to go back to the hotel or drag / carry a cranky child. 5 is a tough age as they become too big and a little ridiculous in the stroller, so good luck to you!

@Ginabean3: my brother lived in Paris for 2 years and actually worked for a short term apartment rental company that catered to english speaking guests. He's still friends with the owners. frenchyrentals.com or perfectlyparis.com for legit rentals. He said he recommends the 18th arrondissment for families with young kids.

Depending on the 2.5 year old's attention span, a night cruise on the Seine would probably be good - lots of sparkly lights!

Exciting! We might be there for a few days this summer with our LOs. Be aware that there are at least 3 public holidays at the beginning of May (1, 8 and 10) and things will be closed.

Do you plan on taking a stroller? If you do, I would bring something tiny, like a Maclaren or a YoYo. The turnstiles in the metro are mostly very narrow and larger strollers won’t fit. In addition metro cars are small and sidewalks are often very narrow too. I would try to stay somewhere very central, like arrondissements 1-7, then you can walk a lot of places. With the little ones, there’s plenty to do in the Tuileries and Luxembourg gardens. The Pompidou center has a kid-focused area of the museum.

Depending on how long you have, consider a day trip to Versailles or Giverny. I would visit the Versailles gardens with kids, but probably not the palace because I’m sure the lines will be crazy.

I agree about not staying in a non-compliant place. We stayed in an Airbnb recently that was not compliant (didn’t realize it when we booked) and it kind of made me nervous the whole time since I didn’t know the laws of where we were staying.

ETA: also, I recommend doing a lot of picnicking! We would just pop into a grocery store or boulangerie and then go to a nearby park or square and eat.

Hi friends,
We are taking our 2.5 and 5 year old to Paris at the beginning of May. DH and I have been before (without kids) so we don’t have a huge list of places to check off (like if we don’t go to the Louvre, no biggie).
Any tips, recommendations? General or specific would be great!

What arrondissement should we aim to stay in?

We are hopefully looking to stay in an air bnb but I heard that as of 12/1/17 all short term rentals need to be registered with the city and a lot of them are not....reluctant to stay in a “non-compliant” place.

Anyway, give me the scoop on Paris with kids!
