We go to LOTS of park birthday parties and there is never much in the way of activities. Sometimes some toys (like others have mentioned) are provided. But mostly they just run around, eat bagels and then have cake and love it.

We did a park party like this for DS last year and for favors I got little sand pails and filled them with chalk, bubbles, sand toys, and bouncy balls. It was all from the dollar store so it came out to about 2 bucks per kid.

4 may be a little different, but we've hosted and attended multiple 3rd birthday parties at the park....the kids ignore the activities at ever single one, no matter what the activity is. They just want to play on the playground.

We went recently to a two year old bday party at a park and I agree that the kids will mostly be happy on the play equipment and literally just running circles on the grass with each other. If you want any fun toys in your bench area to entertain kids while people eat or mingle there, a portable battery powered bubble machine is fun (we got a sturdy one on amazon for $40 and have used it a ton), bubble sticks or guns from the Target dollar section (my target always has them), sidewalk chalk if there is a pavement area near your tables, ball/bat, and soccer balls. For adults, snacks and pizza tend to make people pretty happy :) Wine is good too if your park allows for adult beverages. Coffee boxes from Starbucks or wherever is always a good option - that’s popped up at a lot of parties we’ve gone to and always appreciated if it’s an early party (along with donuts or bagels). Have fun!

Nice! OK, I am gaining confidence. I didn't think about music at all but that is a great idea. You guys are convincing me to do the iced coffee bar. I think I have some drink dispensers too :)

We went to a park party recently where they had ribbon wands for all the kids to play with and some music to dance to. That was pretty much the only activity except for the playground, and it was a huge hit.

I didn't read all comments sorry but maybe:
Sand toys
Bubbles
Crayons in shade

Coffee is a Great idea! Maybe cold brew style in pitchers with ice in side and some flavorings?!

Great idea!

We just went to a 4th birthday at a park and there were no additional activities and the kids had a ball. I’m not much of a coffee drinker but I think iced coffee sounds awesome. The party we went to had sparkling water and chick fil a nuggets which kept the parents happy! Maybe donuts?

These are awesome suggestions guys! Keep ‘em coming if you’ve seen things work really well at other parties. I was thinking about doing a temporary tattoo area too? Thoughts?

You could probably just get a box of joe from Dunkin’ Donuts which sounds easier than a whole iced coffee bar. They might try to say they don’t do iced coffee by my sister has convinced them to!
I agree on the plastic sand buckets and shovels- even if the park has some that way kids don’t have to share. Maybe even make it the favor and write kids names on them. Bubbles are always a hit- especially the non spillable kind.
@Mrsbells: I’m renting a bounce house for our backyard party soon and they do set up in parks but say most parks don’t have electricity available and they need a generator too. Just FYI.

We went to a 4th birthday party recently where there were no activities and it was totally fine. The kids played, had snacks and cake, played some more, the end. The adults say around, supervised and chatted. They did have coffee for adults which was nice. A parachute sounds fun but not necessary.

What about a water table? If it’s a really hot day you can also put ice in it (huge hit)! But then I’d just give parents a heads up for a spare set of clothes/towels?
We went to a park party last September and they had a face painter and bubbles. Oh and a bean bag toss game.
Sidewalk chalk? You can buy a big box for not much at all.

I’ve never seen an iced coffee bar at a party, but sounds cool!

We have scheduled a party for my soon to be 4 year old daughter in a couple of weeks. Almost every single person has said yes, so we're looking at about 60 people (25 kids) from 9-11am on a Saturday.

The park has a shelter with picnic tables, a sandbox, swings, and 2 play sets. I'm hopeful that the kids will mostly just play, sing, and eat snacks...BUT!!!

The planner in me wants to have a few activities just in case. I was thinking of buying a play parachute and getting bubble supplies. Anything else that would work well for 3-5 year olds???

Has anyone tried to do something like an iced coffee bar for adults at a party like this?
