We are full time.

1) How many CDs do you use approx. per day?
6

2) Do you wash them every day/every other day and how many in a load?
every other day (but we have enough for 3 days)

3) Is there enough for a load by itself or do you wash them with other baby clothes?
I always wash them with other baby clothes. I do the pre-rinse with just the diapers, then I add the other baby clothes for the soap-hot-cold-extra-rinse cycles. After the pre-rinse, they look and even smell clean, so I am cool with adding in more laundry to the mix.

I'm part time cloth diapering right now as we ease into it full time. I've been doing it during the day since I've been home with LO myself... usually end up with 3 dirty dipes by end of day... and clean up is usually pretty minimal and I keep them air dry in LO's bathroom until my next load of laundry is full and I add it to that stash. I haven't yet to do a wash with JUST CDs since we don't use them enough yet. (I've been reusing the 3 second-hand dipes I bought, to see if we'll go full-time with them).

We CD 95% of the time. If we're going to be away from home for more than 3- 4 hours, we use a disposable diaper, otherwise LO is in cloth.

To me, its not a big deal to bring an extra CD and wet bag while we are out and change LO's diaper once. However, if I'm going to be gone an extended period of time I do not want to lug several cloth diapers (clean and dirty).

We do diapers every 2-3 days (you don't want them to sit longer than that).

I never mix baby clothes with diapers in the wash because diapers require a hot rinse and I don't want to shrink baby clothes.

@stargal: What is "mucb"? I know I will want to wait because I think we will have a small-ish Asian baby girl. DH and I were both in the 5.5lb range I think and so far everyone tells me I am carrying pretty small. But then again, my teeny tiny BFF and her smaller DH had an almost 9lb baby girl! :/

@shopaholic: it was the perfect age. If I did it before then there is no way I would of stuck with it BC learning cloth diapers (along with some problems we had with them that are thankfully resolved) with learning how to take care of a newborn would be to exhausting for me. (Dummy me didnt research cloth diapera mucb until after i had P). Plus we use aio bum genius and I don't think they would of fit my skinny baby right away even though he was over 8 pounds at birth!

@stargal: I think that sounds like a good age to start CDing! I don't think we'll do it right away since they seem to be so bulky with the one-size.

@stargal: @boiledpnut: @Thehistoryofus: Thanks for letting me know that the CDs don't hold as much pee as the disposables! I guess looking at them with all the inserts you can do, especially the pocket diapers, I figured the CDs would hold more and last better through the night! If that's not the case, then I would definitely stick with the disposables for overnights!

Thanks for all the input so far mamas!
It sounds like about 6-7 CDs a day is doable and 12 CDs a load of laundry is good! @Weagle: It definitely grosses us out to think of washing clothes with the CDs too. In fact, DH is pretty grossed out about using CDs in the laundry machine overall, but I haven't really told him about it yet. ;)

1) How many CDs do you use approx. per day? 5-6
2) Do you wash them every day/every other day and how many in a load? I wash on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays or Sundays. There are usually 12-15 in a load.
3) Is there enough for a load by itself or do you wash them with other baby clothes? I never wash diapers with clothes. Kind of grosses me out. Plus, diapers get cleaner if you have 12-18 diapers in a diaper only load (I throw wipes and liners in there too).

We CD 6 days a week and use disposables on Sundays and at night. I thought the we would use disposables when we were out too. If we have to be gone all day then I will, but otherwise, it's really not a pain to carry an extra diaper and a wet bag. I thought I would be out and about constantly, but once we got a routine, and regular nap times appeared, it's rare that I'm out long enough to need more than one diaper change if that. Usually I just go out twice a day because it works with naps. It works out that I change her at home.

I guess you could say we CD part/most the time.

1) How many CDs do you use approx. per day?
As a little baby, she would get changed as an approximate rule every 2 hours. So she uses about 6-7 during the day and then a disposable overnight.

2) Do you wash them every day/every other day and how many in a load?
We wash every other day. So typically this is about 12 diapers. I could stretch it to go every three days but then I have to deal with stink issues and I run out of my favorite diapers.

3) Is there enough for a load by itself or do you wash them with other baby clothes?
I go ahead and just wash the 12 diapers. If there are just a few pee diapers (or BM poo) I will throw them in with other baby clothes.

We do use CD when we are out which kinda surprised me. I found that I prefer to do diaper changes in the back of my SUV. Its cleaner than most restaurants/stores and there is more space. So to change a CD there is no big deal. I can leave the clean cloth and wet bag in the back.

We never really had luck with night time diapers and I didn't want to invest further in special night time diapers (I would have tried flats or a fitted). So we just use a disposable at nights.

We didn't start cloth diapering until 3 months old but we probably go through 6 to 8 (8 is rare) now at 6 months. But we cloth diaper full time. Love cloth diapering :) if we did it when he was a newborn it would probably be around ten to twelve diapers a day. You have to change them more when they pee since they don't hold asuch as disposables. But ever 2-3 hours seems like what we do. Someres we even have to stretch 4-5 if he is napping or something. Then we have a higher chance of leaks and I hate leaving him sit in a diaper that long but sometimes it happens.

You'll want to change a cloth diaper more often than a disposable. We cloth diaper full time and go through about 16-20 diapers a day.

@HabesBabe: LO won't be going to daycare. I will be a SAHM. But I also am not that great at staying home all day - I get stir-crazy. So I assume we'll go out for something at least once a day.
And yes, I will want to use disposables anytime we are out of the house. I am not a fan of carrying the CDs around.

12/day? Wow! That's a lot more than this FTM would have guessed! I thought even newborns use only about 9 diapers a day? Do 12 CDs = a pretty good size load for laundry?

To me, that sounds like "most of the time" rather than part time. Especially if you're going to use them while at home and overnight (it sounds like you'll only be using disposables when you leave home. Is LO going to be in daycare soon?). If that's the case, you definitely go through more than 3-4 diapers per day.

I would say you would need at the very least 12, to do wash once a day. When do you want to start? Will you only do 3-4 diapers a day then stop or as long as you are at home?

I've mentioned it before on HB, but I'm interested in trying out cloth-diapering to see if it will be an option for us, especially while we're at home and overnight.

Does anyone else here CD "part-time" and if so I have a few questions:

1) How many CDs do you use approx. per day?
2) Do you wash them every day/every other day and how many in a load?
3) Is there enough for a load by itself or do you wash them with other baby clothes?

My general thinking is I'd probably go through maybe 3-4 CDs a day part-time, but that seems like a total waste to run the washing machine? Can someone help explain CD part-time logistics? Is it not worth it to do it only PT?
