DD is doing great going all day 2 days a week. I thought I wouldn't like it but I love it and she has no problem with the days but she's always been pretty flexible.

@BandDmommy: I would go with three days half days then. Sorry I read your post wrong. It took DD longer to adjust to the 2 days a week full time.

@sandy: Great point. LO goes to daycare two days a week 9am-3pm. From 11:30-2ish it is lunch & nap. When they wake up from nap, they have snack, play a bit, and it's pick-up (except for the after-care kids). I need someone else to "manage" that so I can get my freelance work done, but if it were just for LO's socialization/enrichment, I would just as well pick her up at 11:30.

I'd prefer MWF. We are going to be doing something similar to that starting when dd is about 3.5. She has an "early" birthday so won't be starting K til almost 6, and we're wanting to wait out flu season with the new baby due in Oct.

I'd definitely do MWF. We did T/TH and every other Friday (half days) this year, and it was wonderful. He really blossomed and I think it'll make for a great transition into their K4 after next year. I can't imagine sending him a full day at all, or even the 5 day (half day) that his preschool offers. I think he'd honestly be exhausted and maybe a little overstimulated.

@BandDmommy: I think it's what works best for you and your preference. I like 1/2 days three times a week. After I pick her up the school does lunch and mandatory "rest time" and a little play/activity time and it's time for them to get picked up. So I just felt like she wouldn't be doing much during the second half of the day. I prefer just having lunch with her and doing rest time at home. But I have another friend that prefers full day twice a week bc she can do so much with a whole day - she teaches an online class in the evenings so she can do her prep, grading and run errands on her LO's school days

@BandDmommy: DD goes to daycare Monday and Wednesday. I feel that the transition is harder because of the weekend. I would suggest Tuesday, Thursday Friday so she doesnt have the weekend to throw her transition off. Our daycare suggested that for us.

@daniellemybelle: he struggles sharing. He would say no, my toy but at that age it doesn't matter.. When a kid wants a toy, they want a toy and no amount of using your words will help if there isn't appropriate adult supervision :). Hoping he has learned to be more patient and he will have better supervision this go round.

MWF. I've taught preschool, full day is too long. They learn best playing and exploring and creating. Most full day programs try to push academics and they are not developmentally appropriate.

@BandDmommy: Ah, yes, I know that. Every kid is different and who knows what my LO will be like in a year... but I think my LO would still struggle to adjust to a new school, especially after a year off, two days a week. And I don't know if his biting was from anxiety? So maybe if he goes more often it will be a smoother transition and there will be no biting?!

I do T, W, Th half days. I think 3 days is better than 2 for them. Especially for a half day, it's a pretty short time so 3 days is better for their acclimation.

MWF 1/2 days for sure! We are starting that schedule in the fall. I agree that consistency is key and I'd be afraid that full days would be too much for my DS.

@winnibee: @banddmommy: K does 3 "full" days right now, but because it's 8:30-3:30, both drop-off and pick-up can hit right at E's naptime! she definitely falls asleep on the way home from drop-off a lot, and i often have to wake her up at 3:15 to go do pick-up. The half-days might not hit both :)

I do agree that MWF is easier for the kids. But half-day (assuming it's something like 8:30-11:30?) is really not that much time if you are trying to get something done while he is gone!

He has gone a full day here and there (when we need extra coverage, the school is really flexible) and he's completely exhausted.

I agree that going more often helps with the transition. We started daycare at 9.5 months two days a week and increasing to three days a week helped what was a rocky transition. We went back down to two days a week after a while.

I think that going more often will make the adjustment period easier, so I would say MWF. We are doing a 3 day half day program this fall. I also think a full day is a long time for a 3 year old.
