My dogs are my kids. Along with my husband they are the most important things in my life. So needless to say I completely understand where you are coming from! Whenever we have to leave them I always end up ugly crying and I miss them so much when we're gone. I miss them now while I'm at work!

I actually just picked up my girls today after they were at the kennel for four nights. I couldn't wait to get them! I wanted to come home early to get them. I totally understand the worry as I hate the thought that my dogs are bored, under stimulated, etc but I always request that they are together so they can have each other's company.

Oh, this morning the small dog was very close to me because there was a thunder storm. It hardly ever thunders and it was so cute how he came trotting in with a scare look on his face and he wanted to snuggle/protection. I didn't want to leave the bed because of how scared he looked. My other dog was scared but she's by my side anyway.

The first time I went away and left my dog I felt a lot of anxiety about it. After the first couple days I felt better, and I called them a lot to check in on her. Hearing that she was having a great time playing made me feel less anxious.

@Mrs.Pinecone316: Oh, no. That's true. That makes me all sad again thinking from their perspective. :( Although, dogs aren't suppose to know how much time has gone by, so hopefully, they miss us but have no idea how long it's been.

@bluestriped bee: I completely feel ya! My dog is my baby. We are both so attached to each other and leaving him kills me. If he is at my parents house, which I knew he loves because they take such good care of him and he loves their big backyard then I feel fine leaving him 3-4 days. But if he is being boarded or staying somewhere I don't feel as comfortable with it is really hard for me. If there is a way to take him with me I also fork over the pet fee to do so but sometimes there is no way around it. I guess what is hard for me is just knowing they they don't really understand whats going on, where we are going or when we will be back so it just makes me feel worse. Hope you enjoy your trip though!

@meredithNYC: Thanks. Yup, I'm pretty crazy about my dogs. I blame it on the IF and almost everyone understands. I wonder when we have kids what will I blame it on? Haha.
Yeah, that one boarding place near you sounds crazy, but in a dog obsessed good way. If I'm in NYC, I kinda want to see the place.
Oh, haha. My DH will be dropping the dogs off, but I'm pretty sure I would be pushed out the door in tears, too.
Oh, glad you still are dog obsessed after having kids. I hope I'm still like this.

@Happygal: That's a really good point. Both dogs are pretty social. Although, one needs her space after a while. I know this because I have screenshots from the web cam where my big dog is being chased by other dogs and the next shot, she is all alone in corner and not bothered by other dogs. My DH says the place with the web cam doesn't have individual areas so it doesn't give my dog down time. Which could be a trade off. (Well, they have quiet time after they eat and when they go to bed.)

@Shutterbug: No, I don't think this kennel has a web cam, but I wonder if I could email them while I'm and ask for a picture.

@snowjewelz: Umm, yup, I remember my trip to Boston last year (when I only had one dog) was spent on the computer watching my dog play. I just couldn't stop watching her. (She had a secret admirer who might have been harrassing her (by humping). LOL But in the next shot, she sat her butt down and I didn't see any more harrassing after that. Haha. ) My DH was trying to pry me from the computer. Between the computer and my phone, I didn't see much of Boston. ;)

@chibee: Thanks! They are definitely my babies.

I totally get it, I am way attached to my two little dogs (both little chihuahuas and they ARE my babies) and i have never been without them for that long so i would be a total wreck too. It's ok to be attached to your dogs, they are family!

We once had this free trial at a new doggie daycare w/ webcams. I proceed to spend the whole day watching her on the webcam (mostly stream it on my phone). DH was like, why did we even send her away if you're just gonna watch her the whole time?!

We are usually able to leave her with either set of parents, so when we're away I always act like a crazy parent asking them if she's eating/sleeping, etc. They're always like, "she's a dog... She's fine!"

@Happygal: They bum me out, too! I am firmly in the "when you get a pet you commit to it for its entire life" camp. It's one thing if the dog becomes scary aggressive or something, but otherwise they still deserve your love and affection. My dog is LO's "sister" and they are hilarious together. And often, after LO goes to sleep I snuggle with the dog and it is wonderful!

Aww I totally feel your pain! I hate leaving my dog for an extended period of time, even when he's with my parents! I make them facetime with me so I can see him, LOL. Does the kennel have a webcam? I know some do.

@meredithNYC: I'm so happy to see your post. I feel like it's more common for people to say they dislike their pet after having a baby, and those posts always bum me out.

@bluestriped bee: I'm glad to hear you're feeling better after a kennel visit. I get the worry! My last dog was really sensitive, and I knew she wasn't quite settled and happy unless she was with me. My current dog is a social butterfly, so I don't worry about her as much when I leave, and we have a great dog sitter situation. But I don't have to even be gone for long--sometimes we'll be out to dinner and start sharing funny dog stories, and we'll say, "Let's go home and see her!" She brings so much happiness into our lives.

Although I haven't experienced IF, I can relate to being totally, insanely in love with a dog. We often drive to visit my family (from CT to IN) for holidays just so we can take the spoiled beast

The most ridiculous example I can give you is the time when we went to London a few years ago. We were living in Manhattan at the time, so of course pretty much EVERYTHING was stupidly expensive. We had a doggy day care that we loved and we would send the dog there like, once or twice a week to give her an "outing". So we decided to leave her there when we were gone for 10 days. This place was awesome! They didn't have crates (animals had to pass a behavior test to stay there) and the dogs just slept on doggie beds in the main room while a staff member slept on a mattress in the middle of the room. Crazy. They also had web cams. My dog loved it, so we ended up paying over $700 for her to board there

She loved it so much, in fact, she didn't want to leave with us when we came to pick her up. And oh yeah, when I dropped her off before our trip I cried such huge, ugly, sobbing tears that I completely scared the owner of the place. She like, gently pushed me out the door, lol.

We are going to Disney in 10 days (The DH is counting down) and I'm getting rather emotional about leaving my two dogs. We will be gone for 9 days and will be boarding them. In April, we were away for about a week and I was fine. I wonder if it's the recent failed IUIs and the fact that my second dog is tiny enough to be held like a baby. If you follow my IG, I have been posting a lot on this one smaller dog. I love both dogs but I think it might be my attachment to the smaller dog that is might be making my next trip difficult. My other dog is too large to be held like a baby. My other dog has had separation anxiety in the past so she is a sensitive dog. (Oh, we can't take the dogs with us since it's a time share.)

In particular, I was willing to spend double the cost to house our dogs at a dog boarder with web cams. (I want to see them!) My DH asked me if its $350 worth of sad. Haha. I responded maybe...

In the end, I visited the cheaper kennel to relieve some of my anxiety about not being able to see them.

Anyone else go through a period or are still in this super attached furbabies phase?
