@Smurfette: They have a 1st birthday bib in that line from Party City, I figured I would just do that. Find a cute, simple shirt to put him in that I won't feel bad if it gets totally ruined from his cupcake. Put him in jeans that will survive the mayhem.

I was a terrible (or awesome?) parent at Christmas, didn't even put a 'First Christmas' bib on him, even though my MIL got him one. She tried to insist that I simply -had- to get him a special outfit - one that said Santa's Helper, stripped footie pajamas, My First Christmas shirt, the whole shebang. My DH backed me up on this one, though, and said 'What's the point? He'll wear it once.'

@NaturallyCathy: I personally will probably buy a special outfit for the occasion, but I think that is a personal thing. I know many don't. Carter's usually has birthday boy tshirts, so you could do something like that. That would be easy since you are more on a time crunch. Or etsy is always a great place for something like that.

@Smurfette: Great idea, thanks. I may still have to send a few paper ones, there are a few family members who are still a little behind the times. If it doesn't come in the mail, it must not exist!

Now the question is should I try to find something for him to wear that sorta matches that theme? Something easy, like a stripe shirt and jeans? Would you buy a special outfit for the day?

I think those are super cute!! I like the idea of keeping it simple for the 1st birthday. He doesn't know the difference, more for the parents. Save yourself the stress until he himself has more "demands" for his birthday.

If you don't want to mail invitations, check our paperless post for an evite that look like regular invitations.

I was in your position just a couple weeks ago and posted this thread. It might help you get some other ideas on what to do.

LO's first birthday is just around the bend. I have his party tentatively scheduled for the 2nd of February. It's going to be a small affair, since I don't know many (okay, a grand total of three and two of them not very well at all) people with kids around Henry's age.

I don't have a cake picked out - I'm thinking cupcakes, saw Mrs. Stroller mention gluten-free chocolate cupcakes? That sounds good!
I don't have invitations picked out or sent.
I don't have any decorations picked out or bought.
I don't even have a real guest list yet, just a vague sense of who I should invite.

In other words, I'm probably one of the worst moms for not having this stuff picked out. I thought about it! I really did! But after DH and I decided not to go overboard (and by overboard, we mean elaborate because we have A LOT going on right now ((trying to buy a house, 2nd LO due soon, DH's work keeping him from home more..)) ), I guess I just let it fall to the wayside.

Now, with a little more than two weeks before the tentative date, I'm scrambling to pull this party together. I thought at first to look at BRU or TRU but after working there, I know what kind of stuff I'd find. So I decided to turn to Party City. After all, that's where I got all my baby shower decorations and so forth, so why not? (Note: I -loved- that baby shower, even though it was straight from a package.)

Instantly, I was drawn to this:
http://www.partycity.com/product/sweet+at+one+boys+1st+birthday+party+supplies.do?sortby=ourPicks&pp=60&size=all&navSet=169829

Simple, cute, and I can easily keep the monkey out of the mix! What do you think? Or do you think I should keep looking? Any other suggestions for a quick 1st birthday without much fuss? We're thinking there's probably going to be around 30 people max. Probably more like 15.
