if the house is under contract and you're still a little ways our from moving i would do it... its still your house. I wouldnt want to deal with having a party while showing the property though, since showing pop up often at the last minute on the weekends.

I would just worry about what if they want to show the house or do an inspection, etc on the day of the party. If it were going to be small or easy to reschedule or have a back up location I'd do it.

We just got done hosting my daughter's birthday party. Even for a pretty simple party - grilled out, played on the swing set and in the kiddie pool - it would have been less time and money to just to rent a place.

Plus, if for some reason your house hasn't sold yet, you would have to deal with the cleaning and stuff required to keep it ready for a showing.

I wouldn't want to have it at home within a month or maybe 3 weeks of moving, because you'll be packing. But other than that, as long as your are planning to have it be pretty low key I don't see how it would be that bad. Almost better since you will have it de cluttered and clean for showings anyway, so you won't have to clean for the party. And make it easy on yourself- order food, paper plates, so hardly any extra mess.

But take that with a grain of salt since I've never actually had a party for my LO.

You could but it would be stressful for me - At that point I would be packing and cleaning and would not want to host a party!

I mean, I'd still have it at home as long as I know what the worst to expect is!

Can you just have it at a local park or playground or something like that? It doesn't sound like it'll be very big, and doesn't have to be more than an hour or two.

Do you have any family or friends nearby that you could have the party at their house instead? We've had birthday parties at my parents house before.

If not, I'd say unfortunately, it's probably best to suck it up and rent somewhere out. Much less stress.

We have our house on the market, DD1's 4th birthday is in a little over a month. She wants a party, but we don't really want to pay to have it somewhere else other than the house. It will be just family and a couple of her friends. DO you think it's managable to have it at a house that could potentially be sold? We know closing dates are at least 60 days out in our area, so even if it does sell i doubt we will close before her birthday. Opinions?
