@SugarplumsMom: I first submitted a lost passport form (accidentally. I didn't realize that it submitted online.) Then, DH found it and so I thought I could do a normal name change/renewal since I needed to renew it anyway. I got an email and hardcopy letter from then saying I needed to submit a different form because of the lost passport accident, pay another fee, and do it in person at the county clerk office. I did that in the beginning of May and it arrived at the passport processing office on May 10. They have my old passport, my marriage certificate, money, etc. I'm definitely calling tonight to talk to someone else.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: Did you submit 2 forms without canceling the other? One to change your name and another form for a lost passport? If so, I'd definitely call again. I don't want to scare you, but that's how things end up in limbo. Gov't workers seem to find it difficult to complete a task outside of the norm. But if you happen to catch one in a good mood, it shouldn't be a problem at all. Good luck! :goodluck:

@winniebee: Totally stressful! I'm getting pushes from my in-laws (who are taking us on this trip) to see what is up with it. My MIL is also stressed about getting her passport back too. She had a similar situation as me and had to send in a separate form for hers.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: my understanding is you can expedite if after it has been submitted. i am guessing that you'll get your notification of processing in a few days and get it by the end of the month but ...ugh stressful. Maybe wait a week and see where it's at and then expedite?

@winniebee: Hmm, the rep I spoke to said that once it "changes status" that the expedite wouldn't help. I'm going to call back tonight and speak to a different rep and see what the deal is.

Did you have an appt in person?

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I kind of was up against the clock for my son's passport recently - when I submitted, they said it really was just taking a month at that time. But that I could wait 4 weeks and if it wasn't back yet, expedite it at that point. I just checked my records and it took TEN days from the date of my appointment until I received an email stating that the passport was being processed....but then the passport was issued 4 days later (Applied in person on 3/10 and got email on 3/20, passport issued 3/24 and I got it within a week of that date, but I can't be exactly sure...I just rememeber the entire process was for sure less than a month).

@sapphire: @yoursilverlining: I know you're probably right! I just hate giving the government more money. :silly: I just hope that it'll guarantee it gets here in time! I'm so upset with myself for not submitting it sooner! Argh!

There is no way I would gamble with missing out on an entire planned vacation over $80.

I think the only way you can guarantee is to expedite it. Both my LO and my mother got passports recently and it took almost exactly 1 month. But that was without any issues.

So I originally submitted a straightforward renewal with name change that the passport office received in the beginning of April. They emailed me and said that I had submitted a lost passport form, which I did, but I thought it hadn't gone through since I did find my passport. Anyway, I had to go down to the clerk's office and submit a different form which arrived at the passport office on May 10, but it has not been processed yet. It hasn't even been entered into the system, which is why I called the Passport Info Center and found out when it arrived at the office.

Anyway, we leave for Canada on June 15, which is 4 weeks from today. I'm just wondering if anyone could shed some more light on when the "6 weeks processing time" starts. Would it be from May 10 or from the day it's finally entered in the system? The rep I talked to said that I could pay the $80 (UGH!) for expedited service, but once the status changes (I guess that means entered in the system) it wouldn't help. If I had done the expedited service from the start, then it would've been the guaranteed 3 weeks turnaround time. I've GOT to get my passport by June 15th. What do you guys think? I'm really hesitant to spend another chunk for expedited service, but maybe that's my only choice. Ugh!!
