@lizzywiz: Oh it was very hard for me to accept my paleness too! Especially when I was in middle and high school and all the girls were tanning. But now I realize that many of those girls will be dealing with skin cancer and ugly leathery skin when they're older, and hopefully my skin will still be looking good :)

@artbee: You're right. There is a wee chance I was feeling hormonal this morning and had recently cried in the closet over a shirt not looking right because of my 'redneck' right before I wrote this...first world problems, anyone?

I'm also pale, I just don't tan. I tried in middle school and I would just burn, peel, and then be pale again. Skin cancer runs in my family so that also scared me from wanting to be tan. Just think of all of those beautiful fair skinned women out there- Nicole Kidman, Gwen Stefani, Scarlett Johannson, Zoey Deschanel, Snow White :)

I am SO white, with freckles and moles and all kinds of splotches because evidently I was never meant to live in the high desert where the sun is like a laser beam.
Despite me best efforts, I pretty much get a little pink every time I have to be outside for more than 10 minutes (including driving). In the fall and winter it is easier because I just cover up but in summer it is hot, I don't want to wear long sleeves and I am not going to carry a tube of 45 spf around work to reapply every hour.
So now, I can't wear half my clothes because I have a total farmer's tan. I put on sunscreen twice a day, wear hats when appropriate, but even so my driver side arm is a completely different color than right, I have a 'ring' around my neck. and I just started getting age spot on my hands  My legs are still white because apparently they reflect sun- blerg.
I have enough moles and scaly spots to know the sun is not my friend and I have to really start taking sun protection to the next level. Like I said, my skin is not porcelain...how am I ever going to embrace being so pale and splotchy?
