They are attached securely via thick velcro on the back through the chaises' slays. We haven't had any issues with the cushions blowing. Sometimes they have a bit of dust on them, but a swift sweep of the hands cleans it off. For us having cushions meet our outdoor furniture needs. Its an outdoor material so it's no big deal if it gets rained on. Very comfy too. I think it's a good compromise. I think at first we just need to get a dining table and chairs. I've seen some nice sets with and without cushions.
