@periwinklebee: Good call on the swivel chairs! That's just smart!

@hellobeeboston: I think the plastic material is the way to go in terms of durability. I think I'll have to do a lot of research! Thanks for the wayfair tip!

@PurplePumps: Let me know! I just started looking at the website and the furniture is more "reasonable" than a lot of others that I've been looking at.

We got a set from Wayfair a few years back and we've been really happy with it. I tried to find it but couldn't. It looks like wicker in a dark brown, but it's some kind of plastic material that is nice (not cheap) and it's weather-proof. We could a couch, two chairs, two side tables and a coffee table. Can wash all of the covers on the cushions, we love it. I got an outdoor rug from them as well... We do put it away in the winter, but it's been really easy to care for. This will be our third summer with it.

We have a sofa made out of marine grade plywood with outdoor fabric. Granted our back deck is covered, but it's been out there in MA for two years without the sofa being covered (I still use it in the winter) and it looks great.

Sometimes when it rains or snows, the rain and snow do get onto the back porch despite the roof, as do many leaves and lots of dirt. I just wash it with a pressure hose - as the manufacturer and sales associate recommended - and it does great with this. I think anything with marine grade plywood and an outdoor fabric should be able to handle this. Thank goodness it's never been attacked by squirrels, knock on wood.

We also have a small swivel chair, which is pretty awesome. You can be talking to someone on the couch and then swivel around to keep tabs on the kids. When I said I had kids the sales associate recommended a swivel chair precisely for this reason...

We just ordered polywood sofa. According to the lady, it doesn't need to be covered, but you can. And I asked how long for it to dry after a rain, and supposedly an hour should do. I'll have to report back once we finally get it!

@JennyPenny: I do love those Adirondack chairs. They are deceivingly comfortable. Those would be a good idea for the two side chairs. Or I have another great place for them and yes, the composite material is so low maintenance.

@erinbaderin: I figured we'd have to get a deck box. Our landscaper actually had some in the design. :) We live in a mature neighborhood so there are so many squirrels!

We have a loveseat, two chairs, a "coffee table" and an end table set that has worked great for us for years. The only thing is that we do put the cushions away every night - we got a deck box to store them in - because we discovered that squirrels will chew into them and steal the stuffing.

We used to have an outdoor couch and deep chairs with removable cushions. We honestly almost never used them because it was a pain to get the cushions out. We just replaced them with Adirondacks made from composite. My parents have some at their beach house that still look fantastic years later and are no maintenance. They’re very comfy even without cushions, but you can’t lay down if that’s something that’s important to you.

We are just about to do a major overhaul of our backyard and that includes a new patio where we'll have space for a dining table and a lounge area. We figured that if we can't go anywhere, why not make our backyard some place we want to hang out! I'm looking for advice on what to look for in the lounging furniture. I'm thinking either a couch and two chairs or maybe a sectional with one of the fire tables. We'll use this to have our neighbors over to hang out but it will also serve as our spot to watch movies in the backyard so definitely looking for comfort! However, we're also pretty lazy so the least amount of maintenance would be preferable. Though I do expect that we would have to either take off cushions or cover it as I don't believe anything is completely weather proof. We live in the midwest so we get all sorts of weather. We're also not looking to spend a ridiculous amount of money but would rather buy quality rather than having to replace something every few years. Any advice on what to look for, places to go, places to stay away from?
