I don't even print mine, though they are all available through our intranet at work if I needed them. I agree with @buffalove we keep our annual statement (T4 in Canada) and that is more than enough.

I just keep my yearly W2. Plus, the past 2 years, everything is electronic so I can go download them if I needed a specific one.

@winniebee: Depending upon your company, they should be keeping them the same amount of time. Ideally, they should be destroying them after 7 years. Some of the records I handle, it's laughable to see any need to retain them longer than 5 years because it's no longer relevant or useful information. If your taxes have been filed on them, you really only need to keep them a few years in case of audit. Beyond 7 years, financial records become useless and destruction worthy.

Mine are electronic, but before that I kept a year's worth. The W-2 replaces all those at the end of the year.

@cascademom: That's why I was keeping mine. But, I guess I'm now questioning whether I would need to. Maybe I should ask my work first, then shred.

We keep everything for 7 years. After that we toss them. I think that is the same amount of time our government keeps records.

We own our own business so we are our own "work" haha. Nobody would have our stuff on file if we didn't keep it. :P

For how many years back do you keep paycheck stubs? I'm trying to declutter and I have them going back 4 years....I tell myself it's for "tax purposes" but I feel like if I really needed copies of old paychecks, my work could provide them.

Do you keep old paycheck stubs?
