I have both PCOS and Endometriosis. The "cysts" are follicles, but they are follicles that don't hold eggs, and fill with fluid, and become "leathery" on the outside, which makes it really hard for your body to release an egg. You can have surgery to cut them. DH and I chose not to though. We started on Clomid right away, and did HCG injections and IUI. And now we are entering our third trimester!

I have a link in my profile to my blog, and I do talk about it, if you are interested :)

My doctor dx'd PCOS -- a mild case. I had longish cycles, usually averaging 35 days but sometimes as short as 30 or as long as 45ish. Also, a little bit of pesky hair where it shouldn't be (lovely!) and borderline blood pressure. And most obviously, TTC for a while with no success.

Fortunately, he was willing to be aggressive and got me started right away on Clomid PLUS metformin, which helps regulate your insulin levels -- it's all tied together with the hormonal imbalances, apparently, and my doctor said they're much more effective in combination. You may want to ask your doctor about that. The drugs, combined with some diet changes (highly recommend a book called "The Insulin Resistance Diet") and the good ol' Clear Blue Easy ovulation tests equaled success the first month, and now I have a five-month-old :)

I'm not sure what I am wondering, per se. But I realize that I know very little about PCOS other than the fact that it's making it hard for me to get preggo. And it's been the cause of my crazy periods this whole time!

Talking with my friend who is a doctor, I did learn that polyCYSTIC ovary syndrome is actually a misnomer and the "cysts" are actually follicles. But then, I'm not quite sure what that means either! Ha!

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope you get a miracle and it doesn't take a full 1.5 years for you :)

I have both PCOS and Endometriosis, so some of mine will be overlapping or not attributed correctly. What exactly are you wondering? I'd love to share my thoughts but I don't know where to start!

I guess I'll share the brief version of "my story?" About 1.5 years ago my periods got really crazy - my cycles would be very erratic and I have gone over 90 days without AF. I knew something was up because...I was still on bc! I always freaked out thinking I was pregnant when I wasn't.

My doc said she thought I had PCOS, I went in for an ultrasound and it came back that I "Might have mild PCOS." Then I had another followup ultrasound a year later (this past July) that didn't have as many visible cysts. They said "You must not have PCOS." I then got a call from my Dr's office saying they thought I had Endometriosis but the only way to 100% diagnose that was through laparoscopic surgery. I had my surgery on November 21 -- they found both Endometriosis and PCOS, but the ovarian cysts were mainly INSIDE my ovaries, hence why they couldn't diagnose that 100% earlier. Now FI and I are waiting on our wedding (March 3) and talking about when to TTC because my odds are a bit lower than we'd like if we wait too long. We are thinking next summer and I have used this forum (and WeddingBee) to find out others' stories regarding getting pregnant and how long it took, etc.

Oh, my doc said it would take "at least 1.5 years, probably with medical/medicinal intervention" to conceive.

So, I've just been diagnosed with PCOS. Actually pretty excited to know SOMETHING because know I know where to go from here. I don't know a ton about it though, and have started reading up on it.

But I was hoping you ladies here that have dealt with and/or are dealing with it could share your stories?
