This might not be helpful but when I was getting tested for GD the nurse told that GD is such a shot in the dark b/c of the way the baby's placenta affects the mom. Each pregnancy is different too so one baby's placenta might affect you and another baby's might not.

She says she gets super fit women that come in and have GD and she gets women that are overweight that literally tell her that they eat fast food everyday and pass with flying colors.

Dealing with GD for a little over 3 weeks now. I can tell you I was super worried like you but it's really not so bad. :D

@CupQuakeWalk: Yup, I'm on metformin. I think just 1,000 mg. Any higher and I get super nauseous.

@Mrs. Train: Cool! Good to know you didn't develop it.

@bluestriped bee: I have insulin resistant PCOS and I didn't not develop GD. Everything was fine with both pregnancies. But I think they are more cautious with woman who have insulin resistant PCOS.

@bluestriped bee: do you need metformin as of right now? My RE told me (I have lean pcos too) that if I am taking Metformin and it is WORKING (to get my levels where they need to be), then I probably wouldn't develope it. I am curious too. By the way, even at 2,000mg, it isn't that great at getting my cd3 levels stabilized (better than without it), so I don't know where that puts me.

@wheres_c: Did you ever end getting GD? (Sorry for bumping an old thread.)

I have insulin-resistant PCOS and wonder if I'm at risk for GD whenever I get pregnant. I have lean or thin PCOS and my RE said I need to maintain my current weight to prevent diabetes in the future.

@travelingbrit: I promised to update after my test - so I hope this will help you and anyone else interested...

I took my one hour test in the late afternoon and completely failed with a 155 (needs to be 139 or lower at my office).
I took the three hour, fasting test on Saturday and passed all 4 parts with flying colors. In fact, the one hour draw result was only 133 and it had to be under 179. Makes me think that I would've easily passed the one hour test if I had fasted or had a different lunch beforehand. So I guess PCOS does not always indicated gestational diabetes, at least if you are keeping your weight under control. Good luck on your test!

I have PCOS and I am overweight, I had GD, but it was easily managed by diet and exercise alone (no insulin needed).

I had pcos and no gb. I thought for sure with all my risk factors I would develop it bu I didn't. I am overweight, had diagnosed pcos and slight insulin resistance, and had twins. I passed my test with flying colors. Go figure!

I'm having my one-hour glucose test on Monday and just want to have reasonable expectations of whether or not I will pass. I have heard that PCOS can increase the chances of having gestational diabetes. I have suspected PCOS (chose not to have full testing done) but never had an issue with my weight. I very well may be wrong but I thought the weight gain is normally caused by insulin resistance, which in turn is what causes the gestational diabetes.
Anyone with PCOS want to share their experience? Especially if you have "thin" PCOS?
Thanks!!!
