I was taking it when I got my sticky bfp for #2 (no idea if it helped of course). Borderline pcos, no measurable IR but RE said it could help and worth trying. It did make me feel weird but I think it got better over time?

@Mrs Lavender: Unfortunately, no. It made me terribly sick though. What worked for us was fourth round of clomid. We were going to do a trigger shot but I started ovulating on my own and switched to timed intercourse. It was also immediately after a miscarriage (naturally got pregnant the same cycle as the HSG test, which also happened with my daughter) so I think there was a fertility boost in there with this successful pregnancy.

My RE prescribed Metformin and it helped regulate and bring on ovulation. Side effects aren’t fun but they go away- I always take with food!

I was on 1,500 mg metformin and while I am overweight I don't think I have insulin resistance. My RE put me on the extended release version to help with symptoms. I don't know if the metformin alone would have helped me ovulate, all of my cycles were either clomid or femera. Ask for the extended release and play around with when you take it, I took 1,000mg at night and 500 in the morning.

I do not have insulin problems and my RE prescribed metformin for my PCOS. The issue is ovulation which metformin helps get back in balance.

I'm wondering why he prescribed metformin when you are not sure you have insulin problems or pre diabetic. I was diagnosed with pcos via ultrasound and AMH. My RE has never mentioned me taking metformin and I never asked about it. I'm also not over weight and blood work besides AMH is normal. But now I'm curious... did he say what this will help you with? Yes, I'd ask about your blood sugar levels, it's good to know!

Edit: After reading the other ladies responses - I didn't realize it could help with ovulation!

My RE prescribed inositol instead of metformin. I had horrible side effects with metformin, but none with inositol. It could be worth looking into!

Last week my RE finally confirmed PCOS based on an ultrasound and my irregular cycles. He prescribed metformin and I'm currently taking 1,000 mg per day and need to increase to 1,500 next week.

I haven't had *awful* side effects besides nausea that comes and goes and feeling very tired and at times a little lethargic.

I'm not overweight and as I far as I know do not have any insulin problems. Should my doctor have checked that prior to prescribing metformin? I generally feel better around 15 minutes after eating and it lasts for about an hour. But I can't eat all day to curb the symptoms or I will be overweight! Any advice?
