I have PCOS, I was diagnosed after stopping BC for a few months and having really long cycles. After the first slightly long cycle (43 days) I stopped getting periods on my own and had to get provera twice to induce it.

I've never had any pain from PCOS, although I do seem to get achy ovaries before ovulation. My biggest issue has been that I gained about 10 pounds suddenly after stopping BC permanently. It was also really hard prior to that to lose weight.

@TheReelDeal: & @Sugar.Biscuit: thanks for letting me know your experience! I have read a bunch if info online, but it helps to know other people's real life experiences instead of just facts.

@travelingbrit: thanks again! I am staying on the pill for a little while longer. I am finishing some extra schooling to specialize in my career in May, so I am counting the months until it will work out that I can finish school without having the baby first!

My doctor wants to be pretty hands off until we have troubled conceiving which I am ok with. I am trying to adjust my diet and exercise more to level my blood sugars which is good regardless of whatever interventions we need down the road.

@meggrune: I never felt pain or discomfort on or off the bc.
My symptoms were hair loss, dark hair on tummy, weight gain, and the main one was lack of periods.

Are you going off the pill to TTC?

I didnt ovulate until I started taking metformin. My cycles regulated for awhile then stopped again completely.
I wasnt TTC but was trying to get everything regular.....so went to an acupncturist. I went from no period in a year to pregnant! Was quite the happy surprise!

Hopefully you are taking met?
Let me know if you have any other q's?
.

I had it while on BC. Once off my first ovulation almost sent me to the hospital it hurt so bad! Next few weren't as bad but were painful. Metformin has helped a lot. Kinda sad though that I can no longer feel when I am ovulating. Cycles have been fairly normal. This last one was my longest at 34 days, I'm normally spot on 28 but surgery and stress messed up this last cycle. Good luck!

I have PCOS and would start and stop BC. I've never had any pain from my PCOS when not on BC. Once you stop, you may have one period immediately after but then you might not have any more. But everyone is different so the only way to know what will happen is to stop taking birth control.

Thanks! Do you have any pain or discomfort associated with your PCOS? If so, did that get worse at all?

I know birth control is used to help with PCOS while you are not trying to conceive, so I am concerned about what I'll be facing once I go off. Being on the pill was a big factor in my doctor not wanting to diagnose me.

I was diagnosed while on bc pills. The only difference when i went off was no period.
I didnt have a period for over a year.
The only thing that helped the symptoms was metformin.

I am wondering if anyone has experience being diagnosed with PCOS while on the pill. Do you have experience going off the pil after diagnosis? Did symptoms get worse, stay the same or get better? Thanks!
