@hotchildinthecity: I don't have advice because I am right there fucking with you. I dropped 40lbs a few years ago pretty quickly and the only thing I "did" was go on the pill.

Right now I eat a 1400 calorie diet and work out 3-4x per week. I'm down 9lbs as of this morning, and it's taken me four months to lose that weight. I'm on anxiety medication that lists appetite suppressant as a side effect.

I saw an endocrinologist in December 2014 who said I qualified for weight loss surgery, so I dropped him & just got a referral to a new endocrinologist.

I'm a vegetarian so my diet isn't very diabetic friendly. I was tested years ago and wasn't insulin resistant but I should get tested again! Belly fat is my #1 problem. I don't eat red meats and rarely, if ever, eat chicken - so my go to foods are fruits, veggies, and carbs carbs carbs with cheese. Obviously the worst diet on the planet.

@hotchildinthecity: if i think of anything else i'll let you know! the PCOS belly fat thing may be the most frustrating part (aside from not getting pregnant as I know that's probably the largest PCOS struggle.) Almost seemed easier to fix that for me than the belly fat! but I guess having post baby belly isn't on my side either. Hope you can find the magic bullet for you!!!!!!!

@kjpugs: metformin didn't work for me for either, trying to get pregnant or reduce the belly fat. I tried it when I was trying to get pregnant and then again in conjunction with the birth control.

I've done the whole Paleo thing and it worked before I gained the weight, but not after. And I don't really care about the actual number at all. I just think I'm putting in a LOT of work to still have this PCOS belly hanging around.

@hotchildinthecity: I don't have PCOS so take this with a grain of salt. I would talk to your doctor about getting your hormones in the range of 80% or better of normal. The normal range is HUGE on testing. 80% or better is optimal levels. (At least that is what my doctor told me) Also I would look into the ALCAT test. The food you are eating could be causing an inflammatory response in your body. The foods maybe healthy choices for most people but maybe not you. I hope you find something soon to help you.

@hotchildinthecity: Metformin didn't work as in, to reduce weight in the belly?

I've been on MF for more than two years, it helped me get pregnant, but didn't reduce my weight at all. You may talk to your doctor about that. I had perfect levels when they'd check me but hormones classified me as pre-diabetic when I was tested for PCOS. Maybe try a more South Beach type diet for a few weeks and see? Just suggesting as that seems to be the ticket for most people I know with PCOS. Hope it's that simple!

@lizzywiz: I will check that out. I should have added that my cycle is predictable, especially on birth control, but the cysts would normally be the issue.

@kjpugs: I don't believe I'm insulin resistant since the metformin didn't work, but yes I did try a low carb diet, to not much effect. Right now im doing a 50/30/20 carbs/protein/fat and 1900ish calories.

I've had some luck with regulating my cycle, which helps stabilize my weight (I was going up in the past year), using myo inosital. It is supposed to impact insulin resistance. Here is a link to a lady who consolidates the research. It is a blog for larger women (as opposed to slender PCOSers) but the info applies regardless.
http://wellroundedmama.blogspot.com/2015/01/recent-studies-on-inositol-for-pcos.html
You can use her reference page to find the actual research articles.
I used Pregnitude to get started, even though I wasn't trying to get pregnant, and now I use Jarrow. Started 2 months ago and had my first normal cycle in forever the same month I started.

What is your diet like? Many women with PCOS are insulin resistant or can become so, and react well to a "diabetic diet" aka limiting/eliminating carbs and sugar. Eliminating of course processed foods with white flour and white sugar, and limiting fruit and whole grains to healthy amount. Would that be a direction you could take your diet in? I know that when I'm not pregnant that's my biggest PCOS struggle and the ONLY way for me to lose weight is cutting down on carbs and sugar in my diet.

Background: I was diagnosed with PCOS during the summer of 2013. I had ovarian cysts over 10 years ago and went on BC to help. So i probably "had" it back then but no one put two and two together. I went off BC to get pregnant and almost instantly gained 25 lbs. i was eating healthy and exercising so this was a shock.

My OB put me on Metformin to try and get pregnant and I hated it and it didn't work. In Feb 2014, I did the whole fertility clinic thing and they recommended IUI to likely be followed by ivf. I declined and moved forward with adoption and now I have my fabulous son!

In the meantime, I saw an endocrinologist who put me back on yasmin (my OB wouldnt, because of the blood clots) and encouraged me to try metformin again. It once again didn't work, and she told me I had three options left: Victoza injections, an appetite suppresent and just doing it on my own.

I've been on the victoza injections for a while and they're fine but nothing earth shattering is happening. My clothes have gotten looser but I could attribute that to my 4x a week crossfit and even healthier diet than before.

That said, all of my PCOS symptoms are under control -- acne, hair loss, and cysts -- EXCEPT for the belly fat. Most of my body is muscular and toned and then I just have this chunky belly that will not go away. In terms of the number on the scale, I actually don't really care. I'm smaller than I was a couple years ago, but "heavier" because of my muscle gain. But I'm working too damn hard to be stuck with this tummy.

I have to go back to the endo soon and decide whether I want to stay on the victoza or just "do it on my own". An appetite suppresent is silly because I already eat healthy and need calories to fuel my difficult workouts and heavy lifting.

Am I all out of options? Has anyone tried anything else for PCOS, especially the abdominal weight gain?
