I like to make silly faces and play peekaboo with her when she's in the shopping cart facing me but I'm pretty low key about it. My husband, on the other hand, loves to let her ride on his shoulders, blow raspberries on her belly, and anything else that will elicit a giggle. He usually gets the melting glances from the other moms and old ladies. :)

I think my husband will be more affectionate than I am just because that's how he is. I thought of this post today in Kohl's when I saw a woman walking around kissing her baby on his head (in a sling). I just thought it was the sweetest thing and almost started crying right there.

I really need some help with these crazy hormones, apparently...

My husband and I show a lot of affection to my daugther, at home and in public. When in public, we tend to do it more so when she's upset. But I like to carrier her in the baby bjorn so we can kinda cuddle while I'm still getting things done. I have never thought about showing less affection due to others reactions. I think it's cute to see other parents show their babies love too.

I do the same thing! Whenever we are out and someone else talks to my baby I kiss his head and drawl him in closer (I don't want anyone else touching him). He gives me kisses back, aka tries to eat my face, when we are out, so obviously he doesn't have a PDA problem either :)

I noticed that at a lunch date with my friend and her baby. I was kissing and snuggling my baby the whole time and she just wasn't. I'm constantly kissing her kepala though, I thought it was just me!

Husband and I are super affectionate with our baby all the time.
He usually carries her in the ergo when we're out.. gives her kisses, hugs, dances with her.. he gets lots of looks and smiles from women.
I loooove kissing my baby (on the lips) and her chubby wubby cheeks. We do lots of family hugs when we're out.

That's a sweet story NYcalimama. My husband gets more of the old lady love than I do for PDA with baby, they come up and compliment him.

Mr Bee - Our daughter is only 5-1/2 months so I wonder if he'll get more self-conscious about it as she gets older but so far he gets a lot more smiles/compliments than I do when he's cuddling the baby in public.

funny this topic came up... yesterday i was with my two girls walking home from the park. the baby was in her infant carseat/stroller and my toddler was standing on the buggy board attached to the stroller, almost falling asleep...

she was so tired, she was literally falling asleep standing up. so at a stoplight i tried to keep her awake by hugging and kissing her and whispering in her ear, telling her we were almost home. i was sorta all over her... i love cuddling when she's sorta sleepy :) well, the light turns for us to cross the street and for a second i saw that this old lady was totally watching us, smiling and looking sentimental about our moment. i was a little embarrassed because i didn't think anyone was watching us like that, but not really embarrassed either because it was just a natural thing for me to do with my DD, in public or not!

I think it's easier if you're a mom to PDA with your kid. If a man did half that stuff, people would break out their cell phones and call CPS.

Last night, we went to grocery store where my husband walked away to get something. A good song was playing overhead, so I was dancing and singing to Wombat. As far as kissing and loving on her, I'm all over her with kisses. I'll be talking to someone and stop to kiss her head or tell her that I love her. People may think I'm crazy, but I don't care. I want my kid to have fun and know I love her.

It really depends where you are and what you are doing, I used to go to supermarket with my 5month old nephew and I didnt want to touch him too much after touching all the dusty stuff from the shelves, I just wanted to get what i needed and get out, and allow the him some freedom to look at whatever interested him

We've been out and about a couple times this week when other kids have been around and I noticed a lot of times there's not a whole lot of kissing and snuggles with parents and babies, just more matter of fact interaction like 'OK time to crawl'. I kiss and cuddle and giggle with baby a lot whether people are around or not, though once in awhile there's a little tinge of self-consciousness of 'do others think this is weird', it's not constant baby talk or anything but I will kiss her head while someone else is talking or if we're just walking around a store we interact a lot. I don't have the same level of PDA reservation with my husband that others do so I was then thinking maybe some people have reservations about any public display of affection whether it's baby or husband or kid or whoever.

Are you reserved in public with baby?
