@Dr. Pepper: Yikes! Those really look like bug bites to me. But I don't know what could've caused it. :(

@Adira: @MamaG: I attached two pictures taken about 15 min apart with benadryl given right after the first picture. It continued to get way worse before getting better about an hour and a half later. It is so weird. 3 days in a row but last night was the worst.

@Dr. Pepper: The fact that it's limited to his hands and feet and is itchy and there are a LOT of them makes me think it's HFM! The fact that it's been ruled out is annoying. Since it's itchy though, my advice is cool water, lots of hydrocortisone, and Benadryl!

@looch: I hope your son likes it! My oldest loved peanut butter and then didn't care for SunButter, but he loves WowButter! He just told me last night "WowButter and Jelly sandwiches are my favorite!"

And also, as a mom of kids with food allergies, I really appreciate you going out of your way to try to keep another kid safe! It really means the world to us food allergy moms!! Thank you!! <3

@Adira: Yes very itchy. We always notice them after he says, "mom, my hands are itchy." At that point there is only one of them, then we strip him naked and watch them all appear. Though they are 95% only on his hands and feet which is the weird part. The doc said if it was food or drug allergy they would be everywhere.

@Adira: I just ordered a container of Wow butter to see if my son will eat it...I send peanut butter to school for him sometimes, but he told me that he has someone with a peanut allergy in his class this year, so I am trying to do better.

Thank you!

@Dr. Pepper: Are the hives itchy at all? Poor kid. Hopefully it goes away or you figure it out soon!

We still have Reese's and Snickers in the house - we just eat them at night after the kids go to bed. I'll also have peanut butter or peanuts at work, as long as it's early in the day. I try to make sure I stop consuming anything peanut-related 3-4 hours before I'm going to pick up the kids.

@Adira: They do look like insect bites, but last night there were so many of them (like 30+) and the urgent care doc didn't think they were bites, or scabies, or HFM, so just said to follow up with the pediatrician (who of course can't see us until 10/13). They swell up in large red welts like a mosquito bite (but bigger) with a whiter area in the center (seriously like a mosquito bite). But then his whole hands and feet started swelling last night too.

I was telling my husband last night that we need to go through the candy drawer and get the snickers and whatnot out of there now too :(

@Dr. Pepper: Well, hopefully you like SunButter, since it sounds like that's more available to you! And I hear you about the love of peanut butter!! We love it too. It used to be our go-to for sandwiches for our 4 year old, and so not being able to give them to him was a bummer. We still eat Reese's after the kids go to bed though. :D

Hives and swelling - any chance he was bitten by something? Poor kid. :(

@Adira: good to know! I will look at target today. My grocery store does not have WowButter but I'm not opposed to ordering off the internet if I have to. I LOVE peanut butter (specifically peter pan peanut butter), so I'm so sad I have to get it out of the house now. Still no word from the allergist. I'm trying to remain patient. Luckily my 4 year old has given me something to distract me. He has decided to develop weird hives and swelling on just his hands and feet the last three days in a row. So off to figure that out- he has no allergies that we know of... ugh, why is parenting so hard sometimes.

@Dr. Pepper: Yes, we tried SunButter first, but my kids didn't really like it. Wow Butter tastes closer to peanut butter, in my opinion. But maybe you'll like SunButter better!

@Adira: have you ever tried SunButter. It is a peanut free alternative to peanut butter that is made from sunflower seeds. I know lots about it because my neighbor (when I was growing up) was one of the lead researcher/developers of it. I haven't tried it yet but I have heard it tastes just like peanut butter. I tried to buy some yesterday but my grocery store was sold out. I will check out WowButter too! Thanks

@Dr. Pepper: I know with our allergist, it takes a while to get in the first time after a referral (and our dermatologists are even worse), but once you're a patient, you can get appointments much more easily! Hopefully your allergist is like that too. Although if your allergist is only writing up a letter with information about the results, that kind of sucks. I'd want an appointment so I could ask all my questions and get answers immediately!

Definitely sounds like a peanut allergy though, and his results indicate the same. If you haven't had tree nuts yet, I'd maybe avoid them for now too until you get more information from your allergist. Sorry you are dealing with this!

P.S. - I just got introduced to Wow Butter, which is made from soy. It tastes almost IDENTICAL to peanut butter and my whole family loves it!

@Adira: He had peanut butter crackers and got red around his mouth. Then a few months later had peanut butter toast and got hives over his whole body. Both reactions were pretty immediate (within a few minutes of eating them). The allergist only tested for peanuts. It took us 3 months of waiting to get into this guy too (the only one in town). He said he would write a follow up letter with information on the results, so for now, I'm waiting for that. Luckily my insurance lets me go anywhere I want, so I may start driving an hour away to the next closest health system which is also much larger and probably has more allergist and more openings.

@Dr. Pepper: Ugh, that IS scary. My guess (although who knows) is maybe his allergy was more severe than your son's. Has your son been exposed to peanuts? What was his reaction? Has your son had tree nuts and/or did your allergist test for them? We were told that 50% of kids who have peanut allergies also have tree nut allergies. My son is also allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame, so I totally feel you. <3

@Adira: Thank you! I will check out all these places. I am scared to death about all of this (even though I am a pharmacist and have a good knowledge of medical stuff) because we had a high school kid die this last week from a peanut allergy in a nearby city. He even had and used his epi pens.

My son has a peanut allergy but didn't do component testing. It's my understanding that AHA H 2 is the most important component for peanut allergies, with AHA H 1 and 3 secondary. So I think your results indicate a clear class 2 peanut allergy.

http://www.aaaai.org/ask-the-expert/component-testing-peanut-allergy

Class 2 basically means he has a moderate allergy:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioallergosorbent_test

There's a good group of FB called "Food Allergy Moms" that might be able to answer your question. I know a bunch of them have experience with component testing.

My son had bloodwork done Friday for his peanut allergy. I know the allergist will call eventually, but I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight to these lab values:
