@Mrs. Polish: oops, never replied to this!

I felt bad about Pearl Harbor growing up, so it was more just my own bad feelings. In terms of anti-Japanese sentiment, it's general strongest among older Koreans and some Chinese (for good reason)... but that has faded over time. Today, my anecdotal sense is that many Japanese think more often of Nagasaki and Hiroshima than any attacks or atrocities their country participated in. But that's more for native Japanese, as opposed to most Japanese Americans that I've talked to.

My family didn't fight in the war (on either side actually)... so I don't have any familial guilt over any of this. I've read a bunch about the war though, as I can relate to both sides a bit through my family background.

I have been to Pearl Harbor and am definitely aware of the date. My Grandfather was in the Navy during WWII and also, Dec. 7 is DH's birthday! Poor guy.

@mrbee: was it an issue for you growing up? I don't know what our age difference is, but I don't recall even knowing the depth of it until my college history courses.

I'm ashamed that I did not remember this date. i'm sure it would have come up at work, though. Most of my coworkers are veterans and a handful are old enough to have fought in WWII

As soon as I read the post title I knew it was 12/7. I am better about remembering this when it's the work week and I have to jot the date down.

It's a big thing in my family to Remember the Day which will live in Infamy.

I'm not sure many people in our generation give much thought to it.

My grandpa was on the ship next to the Arizona.

Are any historical events particularly important to your family? Did you know it was Pearl Harbor remembrance day?
