@Foodnerd81: I agree. I was stunned when I found out that information. I was so sure it was a discrepancy, but nope. It sucks!

That's how it is with my insurance. We haven't seen a ped nurse practitioner, but when I see the nurse practitioner at my Primary care doctor's office, I am always billed the specialist amount. I called to inquire and the insurance verified that a nurse practitioner is billed at the specialist rate and a primary care physician is billed at the normal office visit amount. It seems backwards to me!

That doesn't sound right to me at all unless for some reason they considered all pediatricians as specialists (which I have never heard of).

Have you ever heard of a pediatric nurse practitioner being billed as a specialist, instead of a primary care provider? We go to a pediatrics practice but our primary provider for the girls in a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She's amazing. But I got a couple of bills now with the specialist copay. I called the insurance and they say that's right, but that seems really dumb since a NP is usually cheaper for the insurance than a doctor.

Has anyone ever heard of this? It doesn't sound right to me but they are correcting another billing issue first so I'm waiting on fighting it.
