I'll do what my OB wants when we get pregnant again but I'm also going to use my own judgement. You can always ask them to skip the massage if you're worried about triggering labor. I have probably gotten four or five already this pregnancy. Plan on getting many more since I can't reach my toes. I only go to nice, large salons with good ventilation and sterilization. I have gotten them throughout my pregnancy (22 1/2 weeks) and had no issues. She also said that she would only be okay with it during the second and third if it was an open air one that didn't retain the smell of the chemicals (which is almost impossible to find in Texas during the summer). I asked her if ae was okay with my going during my 39 week check up and she said yes...I was nervous but the place made sure my water was lukewarm and they didn't message my feet or ankles at all, just my legs. </p> <p>During our birthing class the instructor said that even though we have those pressure points, they have to be massaged to the point of almost bringing pain in order to possibly start labor. I know that there are pressure points on the foot which can help induce labor (my colleague's wife was past her due date so he gave her a foot massage focusing on those pressure and she delivered within 24hr). I was taking a prenatal yoga class and during one we were talking about massage and were advised to be very careful when massaging the feet for the same reason; however the instructor said that if you wanted to go into labor then go get a pedicure at a place that doesn't know much about pregnancy because they might end up bringing on labor.</p> <p>As for the risk of infection, I've read that it is best to go first thing in the morning because the tubs should be the cleanest at that point and to avoid pedicures if you have any broken skin on your foot.
