So out of line! But typical, I could see older people doing this as they just assume the mother is the primary caregiver!

That's so annoying. LO usually behaves so much better for my DH then she does for me. So her theory is crap.

That sounds super irritating - what a rude woman! Not okay to do to anyone.

@eiko2010: no: she was out of line.
MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS,LADY! Ugh...I would have gotten so irritated. My husband is the type that would have blatantly ignored her. He's bad like that.

Oh my gosh I would feel SO bad for DH if someone undermined his ability to be a parent... so stupid. Ugh. I cannot imagine how belittled he felt.

@LivsMama: A similar thing happened to me!! It was 90 degrees and we stopped at a deli for lunch. LO was wearing a onesie and shorts, and the lady at the deli asked where his socks were. "Um, it's 90 degrees outside. Pretty sure he doesn't need them." and she kept making comments about how this generation doesn't know how to parent and we think kids can't handle stuff but they can... right... cause I want my son to be able to handle heat stroke because I overdressed him. :P ugh so annoying.

Totally out of line! I know she was just trying to be helpful, but if the dad is clearly fine and came out of the Quiet Ride car b/c it's supposed to be quiet, then she needs to mind her own business!

BTW, I commute into Philly too and just got really excited b/c you take the regional rail and I knew what you were talking about :o)

definitely out of line. I could see if Dad was talking out loud to the baby, like, "ah where is your momma!" or something and the lady asked if he needed any help. but to just "offer" (I use that word liberally..) the way she did to find Mom was obnoxious!

@LivsMama: wow! that's so obnoxious. I'm going to need to get over my fear of being rude and have some comebacks at the ready it seems!!

She was absolutely out of line. It is not ok to assume that the father isnt capable of handling his child. Unfortunately that happens all the time. Ive had people walk up to me and say things. I always comment with "Thanks for the parenting advice I didnt ask for" and it shuts them up. Unless its a little old lady who genuinely thinks shes helping. But its usually snide people, like a lady who walked up to me and goes "that baby needs to be wearing a hat!" when it was 75 outside, or a lady the other day who said "You need to take your child inside, its too windy out here. I cant believe you would have her here wihtout a jacket." It was breezy on the beach and about 80. PEople are unreal

So in the Philly transit system, we have the Quiet Ride car, which is always the first car of the train. I used to sit in the Quiet Ride, but then Hubs got a new job so now we commute together and sit in a regular car so we can talk. Yesterday, we were sitting in the regular car, and a father came through from the Quiet Ride with his son (probably about 18 months old). The little boy was crying, and Dad couldn't get him to calm down. Turns out, Dad brought him over from the Quiet Ride because he was being noisy, but Mom was still over in the Quiet Ride. A woman sitting near them started saying to the dad, "You'll never get him to calm down unless Mom comes over here. He'll never stop crying. He won't be quiet." The Dad just politely smiled and apologized for his son, and continued to try to get the little boy to calm down. The woman stood up and said she was going to find the mom in the Quiet Ride and bring her back here, and asked the dad where she was sitting! Dad finally told her that they were fine and he didn't want her to go get his wife, and the woman sat down, but kept making comments. Eventually, Mom came back, and it turned out she was waiting for a stop because she was wearing a sleeping infant in a carrier!

I was so upset for the father that this woman was being so intrusive! I could not believe how rude she was being! Dad didn't ask for help and politely declined it when she first made a comment!

Do you think this woman was totally out of line? Or am I being too sensitive?
