@MrsSCB: the "funny" thing is, the Vikings suck. I am originally from MN, so I follow them, and they really just suck. AP isn't going to win the game for them, and they are just making themselves look really really bad by letting him play.

You'd think with all the hot water the NFL is in they would suspend him, but apparently they don't learn from their mistakes! DH said "well where's the press conference where his son sits there and says he apologizes for his part?!" (like the Rice case). The NFL has f'ed up majorly this year!

My husband has been defending A.P. and we've just had to agree to disagree in our house. DH is biased though, because he thinks AP is the best football player of all time (they both went to OU).

@MrsSCB: @Adira: That story is so sad and making me so angry toward this man. Did you see the texts between the mom of the other little boy (also 4 - this guy gets around) and AP? I get panicky just thinking about what it must be like to have to beg for pictures and ask probing questions just to try to find out if your child is safe. :crying:

Cute how the Vikings are trying to say "due process" is the reason for re-activating him, not the embarrassing loss they had the day before. I saw someone say "due process" is the new "freedom of speech" in that people invoke it when they're obviously confused about what it means. The NFL is not the government. Peterson will get his due process in court but there is no reason they can't at the very least suspend him with pay in the meantime. Even police do that. Oh, no reason except they need him to win.

Not sure how long it'll last, given this development: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/09/15/reports-adrian-peterson-investigated-for-another-abuse-case/

This is so aggravating to me. My husband's favorite team is the Vikings so he things Adrian Peterson walks on water. He doesn't see it as abuse. If he ever did that to my baby he wouldn't ever be near her again. But he's like that with all the crap his team pulls. Like if a player gets a dui it's the coaches fault for not disciplining the team. He has responsibility issues. Anyways poor little guy that got beat :(

@ladybee: I have been very tempted to post on my Facebook, "So just to be clear: Beating a grown woman is wrong. Beating a 4 year old child is discipline. Got it."

@PointeShoesTutus: I agree. Not that it is EVER okay to beat your child like that, but it adds even another layer that he is not the custodial parent. His mother took him to the doctor out of concern about his injuries. She is his primary caregiver and I assume she makes most decisions about her child's care on her own. I would be so infuriated in her position - entrusting your child to spend what should have been a fun weekend with their dad only to be abused - and would never want him to come near my child ever again!

@ladybee: sadly a lot of people are defending Ray Rice, too. I've seen people - men and women - saying things like "she provoked him" or "she attacked first." Which if you've watched the video isn't even accurate! This week has made me sad for humankind, seriously :-(

@PointeShoesTutus: I've been thinking the same thing. I haven't seen this on the news at all. Ray Rice is everywhere. If he whipped his girlfriend it would be domestic violence no question. How people can even question this I don't know. So wrong.

He should be arrested and charged. Those pictures and his texts to the child's mother are sickening. He beat that boy. It's disgusting. If an adult had left marks like that on another adult, that would consitute assault. Why is this any different and to a 4 year old? I hope he's stripped of his rights to his child. Apparently, he has a whole host of kids by a bunch of different women, some of whom he doesn't even recognize as his children. How active is he in this child's life? It's just not right plain and simple.

@daniellemybelle: @blackbird: Unfortunately, I do think a big part of it may be the south. I had someone on fb make a statement that basically said "If Rice's parents had done what Peterson did, maybe he would have had enough sense not to beat his wife." Pretty much saying that hitting your child teaches them to respect other people and NOT hitting them makes them domestic abusers. What?! Oh, and this is a white female in her mid-20s. I can't even.

The OP is a black guy, as are all the people supporting the situation. But my demographic of friends isn't wide enough for me to really get a good idea of it.

@blackbird: This is the kind of stuff I am seeing on Facebook as well.

I am glad I'm not alone in this. It's one thing for this guy to be a dirtbag and abuse his baby. But for people I know - people I thought were normal, decent folks - to think it's okay? It's just blowing my mind and has made me genuinely upset all day. :(

I keep ranting to DH, but I don't understand how people think their children are their property that they are entitled to do what they wish with. I see being a parent as a privilege, not a right, and you can lose that privilege if you blatantly mess it up. I am not understanding why folks are more about protecting adults and their "rights" than protecting children.
