We have tons of perennials in our backyard, which is covered with very mature pine trees (much taller than our house). Mostly hostas under them, it seems. I can take pics if you want.

Has anyone had any luck growing perennials / ground cover under their pine tree? We have two in our front yard that we'll like to plant some flowers underneath. We tried hostas at our last house and it just never took off.

Googling is showing me that creeping phlox, forget me not, columbine and blue fescue do well.

Any personal experiences?
