@zippylef: @FutureMrsMcK: 6 months of spotting??? How are women supposed to have sex??? I only planned on having Mirena inserted for about 7 months before we start trying again, and now i'm wondering if it's a bad idea. I did not know about all the spotting!

@Beebug: Whoa, you got your period pretty quickly! The bitterness will soon fade! It took me 6 months. :P

I had mine put in mid-Nov (about 12 wk pp) and have been pretty much consistently spotting since. My midwife assures me it's normal and will likely taper off by 6 months.

I got mine put in at 6 weeks pp and haven't even had a period again yet. No spotting, nothing. From what I understand, I am by FAR the exception though. From what my midwife told me, it's normal to bleed for up to 6 months after insertion while your body adjusts.

I think the longer after birth you wait, the more chance of bleeding, etc. you have.

I am ebf'ing and have been bleeding like 90% of the time since having Mirena put in Dec 11th. Just about 12w pp, and pretty bitter (can you hear me screaming I want my body back?)

I had a period the week before it was put in, so I'm really not sure what to chalk the bleeding to, but it seriously just sucks.

I had about 2 hours of awful cramping right after, and then anything else has all been very period like pain/cramping-wise.

At 9 months i finally decided to get Mirena inserted, and the OB told me that a few days of spotting is normal. But i've noticed that the spotting changed into something more like my period had just started. I also have this gross feeling that's typical of my menstruation cycles.

Is this something that typically happens after IUD insertion, or is it just a coincidence? I'm still BFing 6x a day so i was not happy about this!
