@lilyofthewest: Thanks for the response. I've had Mirena before and overall have really liked Skyla better. I just thought it was strange to not really have a period for over 2 years and then for it to randomly start up again.

One of Bayer's "selling points" for Skyla and Kyleena is that you're more likely to have a normal or normal-ish cycle with them than with Mirena/Liletta. I put "selling points" in scare quotes because menstruating is the last thing I ever need, but, some people prefer it. If you'd prefer not to get a period, you might have a better experience with Mirena/Liletta.

Edited to add: I don't think you need to be concerned that the effectiveness is wearing off early.

I have a Skyla that was put in after A was born just over 2 years ago. I basically had no period for that time with a few days of color on the TP when I wiped, but not even enough for a liner. Now for the last several months I have had a clear period. Not a heavy one, still only need a liner, but accompanied by nasty mood swings, breakouts, and other classic PMS symptoms.

Has anyone else had their period resume years after having an IUD inserted? I'm paranoid that its effectiveness is wearing off early (Skyla is only good for three years and I'm set to replace in December) Also, I deal with the side effects (mainly lowered sex drive) to reap the benefits of not having a period and PMS and this was totally not part of the deal!
