@Silva: Oh I might try this or at least ask my gyn. I had my tubes tied after my 3rd and after I stopped BFing my periods became SO heavy for a 24-36 hour period. Like would only be contained by an ultra tampon for an hour or two. Made me really happy I wasn't working out of the home anymore.

@Mommy Finger: @MoonMoon:
It may not work for you, but when my periods suddenly became very heavy after my third baby, my gyn. recommended taking an NSAID around the clock. It has made a SHOCKING difference. Apparently it doesn't work for everyone, but its worth a shot. At the first sign of my period I start taking 12 hour naproxen. I was waking up three times a night to change a super plus tampon, and now I can sleep through the night with one in, even on the heaviest flow day.

I think I'm a bit closer to the experience @Mommy Finger: described. Periods are regular, fairly short cycles (28-29 days) but very heavy, esp days 2-3. They last 5-6 days total. I've been on BCP most of my life and being off of them to ttc was torture. Now I'm BFing and I hope my period doesn't come back for a long time...

@Mommy Finger: my mom had one done about 10 or so years ago. It stopped her periods completely. Of course, she was older than I am now, but research I'd done on it before said that it can either stop them or make your periods much lighter. I'd be happy with either outcome.

@erinbaderin: I hear ya. I was really excited to not take birth control anymore, but, I've got to say, I kind of miss it. I liked knowing exactly when my period was coming. And, I took it for 18 years so I got used to how things were on it...I am still trying to get used to things your body does when ovulating...and now that I'm not ttc these things do not make me excited lol

@JennyLayneAZ: Yes! When I saw @pachamama:’s reply I thought “wait, I have to go months constantly prepared to deal with getting my period maybe?” Then I thought maybe I’d just skipped this month but no, got it today, a week late. This is going to be really annoying!

@JennyLayneAZ: You just reminded me that my SIL had an ablation done. I meant to do some research on that.

While I'm not over 40 just yet, I thought I'd commiserate with you on the period uncertainty. I had my 2nd (and last) baby in April and had my tubes tied (I'll be 38 next month), I'm not breast feeding, and my cycles have been pretty normal at 28-31 days long. And then last month I had a 39 day cycle. Santa brought me my period for Christmas lol

I'm seriously ready to go have an ablation done and not worry about periods anymore. I feel like a teenager again not knowing when my cycle is going to start :meh:

I'm also 41 but seem to be the complete opposite of you. I'm extremely regular at every 28 days but my flow is very heavy. I can't wear tampons b/c I soak through them. I have to wear disposable underwear for two nights but I think that's mainly b/c of how I sleep. I get really bad cramping on days 1 and 2. After day 3, I'm mostly done. I need to see an actual OB/Gyn as I've mainly seen my PCP after having my last baby 5 years ago.

I think you'll probably start skipping them for a few years, then it disappears. I am in the exact same boat, haven't got my period in 4 months now.
Also, stress? I am so stressed I imagine it is very much affecting my cycle...

Looking for some stories and shared experiences. I’m 41, and my periods have consistently been pretty short, pretty light, and on a 24/25 day cycle. Then my last period trailed off with, like, 7 days of spotting before it was fully gone. Now I’m a week late. Given that I’m 41, was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve at 34, and my husband has had a vasectomy I figure my odds of being pregnant are super slim, so is this just the kind of weirdness I can expect now that I’m aging out of fertility?
