@Hilsy85: thank you so much for the response and detailed update. It is super helpful. We made the switch in toothpastes a few weeks ago, and also ditched the hydro-cortisone I had been using. The dermatologist gave us clindamycin, which I stopped using after 2 weeks when I felt like it was making it worse. I am now wondering if I just needed to power through and that I didn't give it long enough to work. Now they have us trying Elidel....we are only a few days in so I am trying not to judge :). I think I have to have a lot more patience--I will give it a few weeks and if not, request the erythromycin instead. I understand that it is going to take months, and maybe some sunshine, to see any improvement.

@peacockblue: hi! So sorry you are going through this, it was awful for us. It ended up lasting about 3 months, and I found erthromycin topical ointment to be the most helpful and cleared it up a lot. however, it didn't really go away until we actually went to Mexico on vacation (this was in Feb), which kind of makes me think that the weather (dry and very cold, and chapped skin) contributed a lot to his rash.

We were using the erthromycin for about 2 weeks before I saw any improvement, and I know our dermatologist wanted me to give it at least a month before trying something else. The next thing I would have tried was oral erthromycin, which I think has been shown to have the best effect (but can also cause an upset tummy in kids). I also switched to SLS free toothpaste for LO. Let me know if you have any other questions, I found there to be so little info out there!

@Hilsy85: I would love to know how this ended up for you guys. Did your son heal up okay? Any advice on what worked, or what to stay away from?

My two year old daughter has had perioral dermatitis for about 2 months now. It only seems to be spreading and getting angrier looking as time passes. I am totally torn on what I should be using to treating it (if anything!) and apparently I am not doing much good at this point...would love some guidance. Thank you!

@sandy: thanks for replying! I'm sorry your daughter has that...I'm glad it does't seem to bother her though. I agree, I hate that people are looking at LO and I know they're wondering, "What's wrong with his face?".

I have no advice but my LO has Keratosis Pilaris which is on her upper arms, thighs and back of legs. She sometimes gets little bumps on her face but it's mostly on her arms and thighs. I don't notice but sometimes people ask me about it. Her pediatrician says it's purely cosmetic so nothing to do. It's tough sometimes bc I just see my beautiful little girl and I can tell others are focused on her skin and think it's some kind of rash that needs to be treated.

I know this is probably a long shot, but anyone have any experience with this? I took LO to the pedi today for a rash on his face that he's had for about a month and she said it was perioral demtatitis...reading about it has me pretty nervous, as it seems to take a loooong time to go away and usually comes back.
