@rachiecakes: funny, R was also long too! She was 21 3/4 inches long. I wonder if their length made it difficult for them to move around.

@swedishfish: Pretty much the exact same thing here (although E was a little big bigger--8lb, 12oz, and I'm 5'3). Predicted to be around 7lbs, he was sunny side up, it took me two failed epidurals, two hours of pushing, a second degree tear, and an episiotomy to get him out.

So his size was definitely a surprise, and birthing him was a bit challenging. But I just sort of...went with it? I didn't really have a choice! And most of the difficulties were due to his positioning, not his size!

The funniest part for me was afterwards, the nurses sort of looking from him to me and then back again with wide eyes, especially the nurses who saw me when I was pregnant (I had a ton of trouble putting and keeping on weight...)

You'll do great, no matter the size!

@swedishfish: same with my J!

I'm 5'3" and my son was 8lbs 2oz, 21.5", but he was also posterior and brow out, so they had to try and turn him. They got him to budge enough that they could get a vacuum on his head, give me an episiotomy and get him out.
I was induced at 40 weeks, due to pre-e (for my hospital, they don't induce until 41.5 unless medically necessary). I had been hospitalized twice for my blood pressure and everyone felt it was time.

You can do it! I am 5'5" and 120 lbs and LO was 9lb 2 oz. he measured large at every ultrasound and I was induced a week early because my doctor was worried about my delivery if he was in there past my DD.

My induction went great ! I pushed for an hr and a half and had a 2nd degree tear ! Good luck!

Well...I don't think R was a huge baby. She was 8 lbs 4 oz and I'm 5'4". She was estimated to be in the 7 lb range. Her size wasn't a problem. The issue was that she refused to turn so was born sunny side up. Pushing took a long time because of her position.

A friend gave birth a few months before me and she is also 5'1". Her LO was estimated to be 9 something and was under 7 lbs.

I'm 5'1" and on track to have a solid 8-9lb baby (maybe more if I go past my due date), and while I know these estimates/projections are often wrong, I'd love to hear about some of you smaller women who birthed whopper babies!

Share your story, please! Was the size expected or a surprise? Did people make you doubt your ability? How did you gather the courage/confidence to ignore them? Any advice?
