I usually ovulate cd15 so I may be ok. These tests are so time sensitive and it makes me crazy
Thank you!

@LoveHope: I think it depends on the practice's preference. My doctor wanted mine done on CD10. I'm assuming a day later wouldn't make a huge difference (unless you know you ovulate early)

My appointment changed to a day later due to a scheduling conflict and now the HSG is being done on cd 11. I've heard that the HSG must be done between cd 7 & 10. Is this true?

@LoveHope: same experience as travellingbee but I've never had a baby. It was mostly pressure. No pain for me. Everyone is different. I took two Advil in the car on the way to the appointment and had a few cramps that afternoon. I got pregnant 2-3 cycles later on my second cycle of Clomid. Good luck! Hope you have a great experience.

@LoveHope: I wonder if mine was painful because perhaps there was something blocking that the pressure was able to clear out (especially since I got KU right away after I wasn't able to for more than a year). If that's the case, the pain was TOTALLY worth it!

But I'd suggest having someone drive you just in case :)

@LoveHope: I had no pain at all. It was barely uncomfortable. But the nurse said it is more painful if you've never had a baby. So maybe that's why it didnt hurt me. My uterus is all stretched out :)

@LoveHope: Looking back, I totally agree.

In that moment, I was like, "WTF are you injecting me with? Fire?"

And I think my cramps were so bad because I had to stand for a really long time because they took forever to schedule a follow up appointment. It was like all the fluid was trying to get out of me all at one time.

@MaryM: they told me to take 2 advil the night before and 2 advil in the morning before the test so hoping it won't be too bad. Honestly nothing is as painful as not being able to have a LO. I'll deal with the pain just as long as it's worth it in the end

I had an SHG last month after more than a year of BFPs. Got pregnant that cycle.

@LoveHope: The pain during was worse than I expected, and I got really bad cramps right after. In the grand scheme of things it wasn't that bad, but it was definitely worse that I expected.

Make sure you take advil early enough that it will be working by the time you have it done (I didn't take any until right before it)

@LoveHope: I had no antibiotics and felt great afterwards. I'm on my phone but if you look at my old posts there was a link to an HSG thread b

My HSG last month was 5 on pain and as soon as the dye was done it was fine. Good luck, I know you're nervous, but you'll get answers hopefully.

I'm having my first HSG done next week and have heard some mixed reviews of the pain. I'm hoping it's not too painful. Also anyone get prescribed antibiotics after the exam? I've heard of people taking antibiotics prior to the test. Anyone take it post exam? I'm just worried. I really don't want an infection since I'll be leaving on vacation a week after.

I had my HSG as part of our initial testing with the RE after TTC for ~8mos. Given some tubal issues they found & my age, we were preparing for 1 iui, then ivf. Fortunately I got pg the 2nd cycle after the HSG, so didn't end up doing any treatment.

Since the word is that "cleaning the pipes" can clear the way for getting KU, I'm curious:

(Also, what, if any, other interventions were you using?)
