Hand dryers in public bathrooms. I can understand since they are so loud. But anytime I take him into a public bathroom, he's all "no dryers, they have paper towels". He'll go into full panic mode if someone happens to use the dryer while we are in the bathroom.

Also, spiders. We just spent some time at my inlaws, who have a garden with a few big spiders and he was terrified (admittedly, so was I).

DD hasn't been exposed to many animals, but I've noticed that she gets scared when there's a bunch of them. She usually likes to roam around on her own when we're outside, if there's a duck near us, she's fine, but if more come, she gets scared and asked to be held.

She cried hysterically the first time she saw (and heard) our friend's dog up close. But then she eventually mustered up the courage to walk up and touch his tail. But we'll see how she is when she meets his again.

My LO was licked by a dog when he was 1, and he has been very cautious with them ever since. At 2.5 years old he is much better and starting to overcome his fear. He points out dogs he sees when we're walking in our neighborhood or out running errands. He just never gets too close to them, knowing they can lick him at any moment. He loves cats though.

LO also isn't a fan of the vacuum cleaner. It's too loud for his liking, and it used to make him cry every time I would use it (big monster tears with the inability to calm down for a long time kind of crying). Now he runs to a different room to keep his distance and covers his ears.

Mine is terrified of dogs!! Today we were over at a friend's place and her two dogs walked over to her (they were very big but super calm) and she just freaked out. She was trying to escape but she was stuck between two dogs sniffing her face and a fence.

Yes! She's 18 months right now and for quite a while has been also totally afraid of animals approaching her... even though she loves animals from a distance. This fear extends to our very sweet pet rabbit. She loves watching him in his cage, but if we let him out and he gets anywhere near her she screams bloody murder.

Her other new fear is of the train. We live a block away from train tracks, and every time she hears the train horn coming in the distance she gets really scared and tries to leap into my lap. She's not scared of other loud noises, so I'm not sure why she hates the train so much.

Haha my DS was horrified of birds for a while. We sat outside for lunch one day and there were these aggressive black birds encroaching on his space trying to get food and he was screaming bloody murder and clinging to me for dear life.. He was so scared of birds after that. But he got over it in a few weeks after having "normal" experiences with birds.

My friend and I both have a 20 month old (hers is older than mine by 3 days). One day she asked me if we had any strange phobias developed. I thought that was an odd question, but LO did get more and more afraid of animals. Don't get me wrong, he LOVES watching them, especially dogs! However, he would be super afraid of them if they ever come check him out. He used to be OK with patting zoos when he was a few months younger, and I don't know what happened he was really scared and wanted me to hold him when we were at a patting zoo last weekend. He even was afraid of our cat (very mellow and old) at random times.

Then my friend's toddler is even weirder: She is now afraid of windshield wipers. It developed out of the blue - one day it was raining and they had to turn on the windshield wipers, and she had a panic attack (her carseat is forward facing). She won't stop screaming and crying, and she had her hands covering her eyes! They had to pull over several times to calm her down. Poor thing.

Did your LO develop any kind of strange phobia? Was that a developmental stage and did it go away?
