So... we got there and they said my photos weren't white enough. Sigh.

So they took their own. They told her not to smile. She complied.

Love the try it again photo! I think your final product is MUCH better than what I did at home so I think you'll be fine! ;) My son's mug shot passport photo had a pretty dark off white background and they took it.

When DH gets home from work we'll try your trick and see if I can get something straight on, and then I'll email it to you. Thank you so much, I really appreciate all the help!

I would either try software that allows you to adjust "shadows" (lighten the dark spots without brightening the highlights) OR using a sheet as a reflector for the light.

Alternatively you can get reflectors off Amazon inexpensively. I used one for my newborn photos to reflect natural light and it worked super well. Then you could use the reflector again in the future for more DIY photography sessions!

This is the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/Neewer-43-Inch-Collapsible-Multi-Disc-Reflector/dp/B002ZIMEMW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412362907&sr=8-1&keywords=reflector

@Arden: I'm not sure how strict they are about tilt, but I don't think it's that bad. I put Sadie on Dan's shoulders and had him kneel so that Sadie was about my height. He was holding her hands down so that she had to be facing straight ahead. Is your husband home to help?

Once you decide on a picture I can photoshop the background white for you if you want to email it. Janiewhitetaylor@gmail.com.

@photojane: That worked so well, thank you! The light is 100% better, but now I'm wondering if the wall behind her is too dark and if her tilted body will be a problem. I don't have time for this to get returned so I need them to accept it the first time...

What kind of camera are you using? I took Sadie's at home, but I have an external flash. If you're using a DSLR, but don't have an external flash, you can rig up a little bounce card with some white paper that will bounce the flash off of the ceiling to avoid harsh shadows/light. Also, Sadie's smiling in her picture & they used it. I think they're more lax with little ones.
