Even though I have a crop sensor camera, I still love my 50mm. I only rarely find it too tight, and I tried a friend's 35 for a week but just didn't love it. I have a 1.8 and would love a 1.4 but couldn't justify the extra $$$. I have a couple other zoom lenses I don't like much...I really want a wider-angle prime (like 20ish) and a macro lens, and a good wide-to-mid zoom (18-70ish).

I have the Canon 35 1.4 and it takes super dreamy photos even though I don't know what to do with it half the time.

My next lens will likely be a 35/1.4, as much as I love the 50 I find it way too close/tight.

@blackbird: @pui: @Mae: same. Love my 50 1.4.

But what @Mae: Said is true. If you have a cropped sensor, you want to get a 35 to accommodate.

I recently got the 35mm f/2.0 and am trying to figure out whether I love it or not, haha. I have a cropped sensor camera, so I think the 35 is a good fit, and it's definitely easier to take pictures indoors with it because I don't have to take 20 steps back to get my subject in view. But I also feel like I haven't been able to take as beautiful pictures with it (and maybe that's just because my subject, Xander, is now a toddler and will not stay still). So I'm torn. I think, at least right now while I'm still new to the 35mm, that the 50mm f/1.8 is still my fave.

my favorite flip flops between the 50mm 1.4 and 85 mm 1.8. The 50mm is too "in your face" for shooting toddlers and the 85 seems easier to use .. but then sometimes you want to get those nice up close photos too .....

for a "walk around lens" i like 70-300 but it's a beast.

my fav lens that I own (and would prob be my most used regardless) is my 50 1.4. My fav lens to use is the 85 1.2, but thats too narrow for a lot of things. Do you have a cropped sensor camera? if so I'd recommend the 35 bc that will get you closer to the 50mm look people get on a full frame camera.

my 50mm 1.4. I also really loved an 85mm 1.2 when i rented it but it is $$$$$$.

I like a 50mm b/c it's so damn fast and crisp

I'm an amateur who uses my camera for taking pictures of my kid. I cracked my 50mm lens and want to replace it with something similar but maybe something wider? I tested out a 40mm pancake lens today at a local shop and really did not like it - I couldn't get things to focus well.

I already have a nice everyday zoom lens so I'm looking for something compact and maybe Prime.
