I did newborn and we are now waiting until 6 months. If you want some pics of your little one, why not stage a little photo shoot in your living room. Dress him up cute and have even just a white blanket background. I do this for all the holidays, I just found some ideas on Pinterest and use my little point and shoot camera. Cheaper and I have loved the way they turn out!

3/6/9/12 months are pretty typical for family portraits. 6 months is a better age to work with than 4 months, though. More expressive/etc.

I loved doing them before she got mobile. We did 6 month ones where she was just starting to sit up and they turned out great.

Do you have a nice camera that you could use to take some pictures on your own?

I personally feel that pictures any time are good--babies are always cute :) But if I had to choose between 4 months and waiting til 6 months or so, I would choose to wait, mainly because at 6 months LO might be sitting up on his own and I feel like they develop a lot more personality at that age. But I don't think you can go wrong either way!

We had some newborn pictures of our LO when we were in the hospital and they turned out just OK-- he looks adorable but my husband and I look beyond tired, obviously, and I don't like any of the "family" pictures she took because of this! We really liked some of them so we wound up getting a few and opted not to do any other "professional" pictures at that time. We thought that we would wait until 6 months or so to get some more pictures when he was a bit bigger.

He is now 4 months old and we are still considering working with a photographer again. I am disappointed that we didn't take the opportunity when we was so little to do more (and more of the "style" I wanted) and find that I am almost trying to hurry to do some pictures while he's younger.

Do you think it would be better to do pictures now or wait a few more months? He's obviously too big to do newborn-type pictures and I am just wondering if it's an OK time to do family pictures? We have a few photographers in mind and I am trying to schedule something soon, even if it's a few months away.
