@bluestriped bee: My MIL can't help us this Sat so I'm not sure if we should take the dog with us! We might do a family photo in front of the house with him when we get back!

@autumnlove: You got all the supplies I would have for a DIY photoshoot. I've done it with one dog and it was challenging. It's a miracle that we've gotten some good photos over the years. (I think the thing that saved us is our camera clicks when it takes the picture and the dogs look for that noise. Haha) This year, we'll have another dog to add to the mix.

Oh, since you have a Nikon, there's a wifi adapter (it came with my camera package) and an iphone app that you can download to get real-time pics on your phone. I could see all the pictures my camera was taking. It's not the best app but it was nice when the app worked. ;)

Lots of luck to you!

Bribery will get you everywhere.

Our family pics were almost a disaster until the photog pulled out a candy necklace!

We just had ours at 9am. We totally had to bribe W with a piece of candy to get her through it (told her about it ahead of time so she knew what to expect). The baby was the easy one. Try to keep it moving as quickly as possible. I think 30 min is about the max you're going to get for cooperation. haha

Practice shooting facing the sun if it's not too sunny and backlit (with the sun behind) with a tree between the sun and lens if it is sunny out. Try a few angles before setting up. Shoot in manual if you know how.

Definitely afternoon so you get that afternoon light! These days it gets dark by 6 pm though, so maybe a 4pm shoot would be good? I think bringing some props will help too! A blanket, maybe balloons or some pinwheels, a wagon... they can also keep the kids preoccupied and hopefully you can get some natural, less posed pics with them that way!

@blackbird: I am taking my friend's pics next week but DH will be at work so she might take some of the 3 of us!

My MIL is available on Sat but she is completely useless with a camera (even on auto)...no joke. She can help with the girls and dog.

We just did this this past weekend (but only one toddler). There was lots of bribing involved and we later focused on breaking us up (me and LO then DH and LO) in case the ones of all 3 of us just didn't work. I'm not sure what Nikon you have, but ours has a screen that comes out and twists so you can see it from the front, LO was amused by our picture coming up and it helped her look at the camera.

We are going to take family photos on Sat. I am using a tripod and remote with my camera.

Do you have any tips for photos with two young toddlers? Besides snacks and bribes? I figure early morning or after a nap will be the best time?

I have a Nikon DSLR and two lenses (50 1.8 and a 85 1.8) and I think both will come in handy? I haven't used my camera in months....I will do some practice shooting today!
