@mrbee: did you have a chance to consider whether embedded photo thumbnails, or any other alternative photo layout, could work?

@Myicitygirl: Ah I see, I don't have an iPad mini so I haven't experienced the issue you're describing. I'll check one out and talk to our webmaster to see if there's something we can do to improve the reading experience!

@mrbee: NYTimes.com articles has pictures that you can enlarge, to see detail. If the post pictures were considerably smaller, with the option to enlarge, that would make a big difference.

<< NYTimes and Huffington Post have photo slideshows and there is text associated with each photo, usually off to the side. And sometimes a way to hide/expand the text as well. >>

@Myicitygirl: Yah but in those cases, the text always goes with the pictures - and their goal is usually to force visitors to click through each photo to generate additional pageviews! Here the pictures don't always go with the text... sometimes the pictures are kind of random.

I will try and visualize what you're envisioning! It's a little hard because I generally don't like slideshows, but I'll come back to this tomorrow with an open mind and reread the thread!!

@mrbee: i am picturing a slideshow of images at the top of the post. Is there a way to embed links to specific photos within the blog post, so the reader can click on the photo? Or maybe embed a thumbnail that the reader can expand to see the full photo when they come to it, so the photo is still tied to the specific text?

@regberadaisy: I agree photos can really add to the posts, but too many can take away from the ease of reading.

Another suggestion would be to make the photos smaller perhaps. When I am reading Hellobee posts on my ipad mini, each photo takes up almost the entire screen.

@Myicitygirl: Ah interesting!

How would the text between the pictures be factored into a slideshow?

I actually really like that the pictures are part of the post. I think they tie into the content better that way.

@mrsbee: is there a way to set up pictures included in blog posts to run as a slideshow, where the reader can click through to see each one? I enjoy looking at the pictures in a post, but when there are more than a couple of images, it would be easier to read the text of the post without scrolling down so often.
