@regberadaisy: today he had his hemoglobin re-checked. It was 10.8, up from 10.6 last time. The CNP said the target was 11 so it's close, but still under. I decided I'd give him a veggie pouch (found one with 20% dv Iron). He still isn't good about taking his drops, though. He won't take it from the dropper and the juice is hit or miss. Sometimes it's literally just thrown and spilled on the floor :meh:

My DD is 18 months and some days are definitely better than others when it comes to food. I think it is also just a control thing - for so long she ate everything we gave her, now she is discovering that she can have an opinion!

My sense of this (with a 2.5 year old) is that there are both acute phases that come and go but that they also gradually do get pickier over time. I've noticed my LO definitely doesn't eat as well as she did a year ago, but she also still does go back and forth with both veggies and meats, so we try to keep offering, always. Sometimes she will surprise us and eat a ton, although usually these days, she will only eat small bites. We have also had luck putting veggies and meats inside other things (like casserole, chili, or quiche).

The one thing I have found that she will reliably eat are cut up carrots and peppers, and that is because I give them to her as a "snack" (along with a cheese stick) after daycare. She will literally pick carrots and peppers out of her dinner but eat them with no issue an hour before if they are a "snack". Not sure why this works for us, but we started when she was very young and it's a habit now, so just thought I'd mention that.

Totally a phase....I would just keep offering veg and meats to him. My DD is super veg adverse and I just find other ways to get her to eat them....green smoothies, in pasta sauce, broccoli quinoa nuggets....good luck!

When my daughter was that age, the only food she would eat was bits of processed sandwich ham, cubes of cheese and yoghurt. Now she's almost 3, she's still super picky but now its chips (fries?), crisps (chips?), fish fingers (fish sticks?) and turkey dinosaurs. I keep serving up what we are eating in the hope that, one day, she will eat it!

It's definitely a common phase and some kids are just pickier than others. Definitely continue to offer. What are his levels at? @macintosh:

My kids (15 months and 2.5 years) have definitely gone through picky phases where they turn down most of what is offered. (They both reliably like ground meat, so it's not quite the same as your current situation. But neither reliably eats any particular vegetable.)

We generally follow the Satter approach, which--for us--means just riding out the picky phases. In our regular cooking, we try to provide options that we think they will enjoy while still trying out new things. When they are eating less, though, we don't make adjustments to what we prepare. Then they will get over the picky phase and eat EVERYTHING we give them for a while.

I definitely think it's a common phase that repeats itself throughout toddlerhood. I would try making pasta with ground beef spaghetti sauce or purée spinach into as many things as possible. We can get DS to eat veggies if they cooked into things like mac n cheese or omelets or fried rice and I definitely blended like 6-7 veggies into his pasta sauce with beef! But it's how we are getting squash and spinach and broccoli in him. He does like carrots and to gnaw on corn on the cob. Meat he only likes processed or ground so it's not ideal right now either. Lots of sausage and hot dogs and meatballs and meatloaf etc.

My 13 month DS was mostly BLW so he never let me feed him. Now the problem is he won't try new foods, especially veggies and meat. He will eat just about any carb or fruit, bu when it comes to veggies or meat he won't let it near his mouth. Is this just a phase? Should I keep offering even though it just goes on the floor? His iron was low so he's on iron supplements, which is super annoying.
