@DesertDreams88: Thank you!!! This chart is very helpful. After discussing it with our new pedi, it appears he is just a picky eater...but now I know what other signs to look out for.

@sarac: Exactly everything you said. The first time I realized that this is a legit issue, and not just me being "picky," I felt a thousand times better about it all. My mom thinks I just like having an official disorder so I have an excuse to keep refusing to try food, but actually I feel like it liberated me to refuse when I need to, but be able to try more things knowing it's okay if I can't eat them.

Wow, that chart is amazing. It's really gratifying to me to see selective eating disorder recognized as a real thing. I've dealt with it my entire life, and I really struggle with it. My eating problems didn't have anything to do with trauma, or any physical issues, so there isn't any cause to point to. But I very much wish that therapy had existed when I was a child, because it has had an enormously negative impact on my life.

I have done a little bit of reading and am wondering...what is the difference between a picky eater and an LO who needs intervention for feeding issues? I know eating can be part of sensory issues that need attention. I have twins and one eats everything while the other is quite picky. Since they are twins experiencing the same food, mealtimes, rituals etc I find it very frustrating. Whenever I read about how to raise healthy eaters I'm like, yes we do all of that and one kid eats everything while the other doesn't!
