LO has actually had that from birth, he had a tear duct issue that finally started getting better more recently so he's always had eye gunk. People often prescribe an antibacterial for it (polymyxin), but don't be surprised if it just clears up rapidly on its own. The drops won't really hurt anything, but it's probably unnecessary use of an antibiotic. It went around RJ's preschool but he didn't catch it! But he does get lots of gunky discharge when he's congested because his bottom lashes stick into his eyes and irritate them easily. We use a clean cloth soaked in warm water and go at it. he HATES it. Usually if it's not too bad I'll wait til bathtime since that gets rid of it all too. Antibiotic drops and oral antibiotics don't help unless it's bacterial (which it rarely is). Tincture of time also helps!
