Here's a positive story for you.</p> <p>When DH and I were in China, he put his backpack down in Tiananmen Square to take a picture, hopped back on his bicycle, and rode away without picking up his pack (I was not with him - we didn't meet until that evening). His backpack had his Australian passport, iPod, wallet, and all of his money (about $500 AUD). He noticed he didn't have it about 20 minutes later, rode back frantically, but the backpack was gone, obviously.</p> <p>He spent all day at the police station filing paperwork as he no longer had a passport, visa, any identification, and no money, credit cards etc. Upon getting back to our hotel, our tiny little backpackers hotel down an obscure lane way in the middle of nowhere, he discovered someone had returned his backpack! They'd gone through it, found his hotel key, figured out where the hotel was, made the trek over, and turned it in with all contents inside, minus about $50, which they probably figured they earned as a reward (damn right they did!).
