@Mrs.Pinecone316: @QBbride: thanks! My perinatologist mentioned that my RCS will probably take place at a different hospital since it is a better place to have a high risk delivery.

@nicollette1189: thanks for sharing! It was my 18 week scan as well and I also have other high risk factors. I am glad your delivery went well! <3

I was diagnosed with possible accreta at my 18 week sonogram. They did monthly ultrasounds to monitor the condition and recommended a csection between 34 and 36 weeks. Both my OB and the perinatologist brought up the potential for a hysterectomy if the placenta did not detach itself. My csection was done in a regular (non L&D) OR and I was put all the way under with general anesthesia. They took precautions before the surgery to prepare for the worst. They had units of blood on hand and a second surgeon (a gynecological oncologist) if something went wrong. I was high risk for other reasons besides this, so all of these things may be overkill for you.

I ended up not having any degree of accreta when they went in, just a very thin uterus which made it look worse. Hopefully yours turns out just the same!

I'm a NICU nurse too (hi @Mrs.Pinecone316: !) and we see this occasionally. You will be closely monitored and probably have your c/s scheduled early enough that they won't risk you going into labour. Usually these cases are done in the main OR (rather than in the OR in the L&D wing) in case of complications. Honestly most of the time the c/s's go super smoothly and the baby is totally fine!!!

Sending you positive thoughts. It's always scary getting news like that!

I have been to deliveries and taken care of babies whose Mothers had this (as a nicu nurse) so my best advice is to just feel good about the hospital you are delivering at, that they are well equipped to take care of high risk cases for both mom and baby. They will watch you very closely, I know it is hard not to worry but I agree staying off Dr. Google is for the best!

(and I will add, the cases I have cared for even the ones where mom had a rough go after delivery and baby was born a little early everything ended well! )

As I mentioned to @getjazzy on our August board, a good friend of mine had it for her January birth. DO NOT GOOGLE!!!! She had a scheduled c-section at 37 weeks (baby stopped growing at 32wks) and he son was small but healthy, no NICU needed. Her uterus is in tact (2 hour surgery post c-section to remove the placenta) and her doctor said more children are not out of the question (this was her second) but will warrant discussion prior to TTC to talk about the risks. She was up and about really quick, went to a gala fundraiser with her husband only a week after birth! Baby boy is still struggling to gain weight, but he is gaining and healthy and happy, just a strict feeding schedule! SO HAPPY HAPPY outcome. If you have questions, let me know and I can ask her. DO NOT GOOGLE!!!!

Possibly dealing with this. At my anatomy scan they noted that my placenta was forming on or near my c-section scar so I'm just waiting to see what the report says when I see my doctor tomorrow. Definitely googled it too when they told me, which was a BAD, bad idea. As far as I could deduce though, it's incredibly rare to have the most severe of cases.

I had an ultrasound yesterday and my Dr said I might be showing signs of placenta accreta. I need to be closely monitored for the rest of my pregnancy.

Any experiences? Google is scary.
