@Bao: 5lb 12oz at 39 weeks. No complications at all, they just had to check his blood sugar for the first 24 hours and it was fine every time. Like @Mrs. Jacks: mentioned, I had the umbilical flow monitored and it was fine.

@Bao: I think that makes the risks much lower.

I don't know if you know what placental lakes are, but they are maternal blood pockets within the placenta. Hopefully they also looked at umbilical artery flow and are sending you just to monitor for growth. There is a spectrum of significance... From nothing to bigger complications.

It was mentioned when I was pregnant with DS but not until very late in the pregnancy when they were concerned with his size and looking to see if anything was wrong with the placenta. I don't know for sure that I had it (no one made a big deal about it), but DS was 100% fine, just small.

Has anyone ever heard of this? I had my ultrasound yesterday and a few hours later they called me back saying they are referring me to maternal fetal medicine because something didn't look right with my placenta. They mentioned "placental lakes" in addition to a couple other things but my mind was elsewhere because I was trying to take in what they were saying. I'm assuming since they didn't send me to the hospital that day that it's nothing to panic over, but I'm still worried. If anyone has experience with this please chime in!
