I told people the date of the scheduled C-section. I went into labour two days previous. I ended up keeping it off FB for the two days and on the day she was supposed to be born, I announced that she had been born two days previously.

We knew at 36 weeks the date of my scheduled c-section (breech baby), and we told everyone. But I was really upset about it, so I wouldn't have been able to hide it, anyways.

Thanks, everyone! Everyone seems to pretty much be on the same page. We have told our parents, my sister, and DH's brother, and a few close friends. We'll probably follow the lead of a lot of you and just make the "announcement" after!

No. We knew for awhile that I might need a scheduled C, but we only told maybe a handful of people: only a few close friends and my mother who was traveling from out of town to be there. We didn't tell most people that we had a scheduled C unless the topic came up later. People were already hounding us about the birth anyway.

When we decided on an induction date (I was late) we told parents and our closest friends. We asked all of them to keep it to themselves. It was fun to get to tell them. And because my induction lasted from 11pm to 7:19pm the next day and ended in a C-section, there was still quite a bit of surprise.

I haven't had a c-section but a good friend had two - the first one she told close family when it was and they were waiting in her recovery room - not ideal! So with the second she did tell them the day but told them it was happening later in the day than it actually was - that way if anyone showed up unannounced they still hopefully arrived after the birth, and if my friend and her partner wanted to invite them in sooner they could always pass it off as the hospital took them earlier or something. I think it worked well and I thought this was a good tactic if I was ever concerned about surprise visitors.

Good luck next week!

Mine is in 2 weeks and I told our parents, my sister, and a couple close friends that I know will want to visit that day. Other than that, I think I'll let it be a surprise for everyone else unless they ask.

I will have a planned c-section and I plan to tell my parents and inlaws when it is. Of course, Ds will also know, and I'll have to tell his dad, because it will probably mess up visitation for a couple weeks. I'll tell other people, if they ask.

DD ended up in a c-section, so there was no c-section planned (though she was induced). I'm pretty sure we did announce our c-section date with DS and my water broke 3 weeks early, so it didn't matter! This time around we will make the announcement (I think it'll be December 30th, we should find out this week!)

With my inductions, I didn't want everyone to know so we kept it quiet except for parents and siblings. So it was a surprise when we announced on FB. With my scheduled csection, we told. Everyone knew I already had a csection previously, and just assumed id have a scheduled one with #2(that and they were 15 months apart). So, it was again, family and siblings, but also coworkers and close friends who knew.

We only scheduled my c-section 2 days ahead, and I was at 40 weeks so everyone was expecting a baby announcement any day anyway; so we only told all the parents, who I assume called and told aunts/uncles/etc. We also told close friends; we just said that on Friday I was having the baby and what time the c-section was scheduled for, and that we would send pics out as soon as she was born. My parents came to the hospital with us and it was so surreal waking up that morning knowing I'd have a baby before dinnertime! :)

We knew from about 10 weeks that I'd have a planned c-section but struggled with how to still make it a "surprise". So we ended up giving them a fake date (told everyone it was scheduled on a Monday when in fact it was on a Friday). Hubs called both of our parents when we got to the hospital at 5:30am, and then we started sending the texts, emails, etc. It was fun and kind of kept the c/s anxiety at bay! The parents showed up at 8am as we had originally planned, and DH brought the baby out to show them for a few minutes, then they all came back in the afternoon once I was up in my room. I had no interest in seeing the fam in the recovery room, I just wanted to spend time with DS and DH :)

I'd just let people know by word of mouth. I don't think anyone would be offended by finding out baby girl is here without a prior announcement though.

A question to those of you who have had planned C-sections...

I just found out yesterday at 38 weeks + 3 days that baby girl is breech (and has been, but the doctor never figured it out until she did a cervical check...). I now have a C-section scheduled for next Wednesday morning! So nuts! Anyway, our "plan" prior to finding all of this out was to keep the labor/delivery quiet until baby girl was born, and just tell our parents when we went to the hospital. Now having a set date and time, it feels different keeping it "quiet" until after she's born, but at the same time, it feels weird to spread the news...you know?

So, if you had a planned C-section, were a lot of people aware of it, or did you just announce the birth after?
