Personally I would find someone who can be on call to stay with your older child while you are in the hospital. I would not want to be without my husband during labor and delivery. You still have about six months to plan for that -- time to save up so that you can pay someone, and time to acquaint your child with this person so that s/he feels safe and secure with him/her when the time comes.

I don't have any tips for you, but I wish you wouldn't say you feel like a failure! Personally, I am very pro epidural, but even if you wanted to go without, and didn't, you still brought G into this world and he is awesome! I know you don't think I'm a failure for getting an epi, so don't think of yourself as one either!

I hate that you feel like a failure! You brought a human into this world!

I used the hypnobabies home study kit and absolutely loved it. Afterwards I remember my husband remarking that I was a mess while in labor until he turned it on for me and that I magically calmed down and handled everything a billion times better. I found it really helpful throughout my pregnancy as well. The idea is you listen to a track daily for I think 8 weeks, they remind me of guided meditation and they help you with self hypnosis. There are also pregnancy affirmations to listen to and a book that walks you through regular birth class stuff (but very heavy on crunchiness.) It was truly an awesome experience and I highly recommend it.

Hello All
I am 15 weeks with my second baby and my first is 14 months :D My first labor/delivery plan didn't go as planned. I only take meds when completely needed and refuse to take any during pregnancy. I went months and months of suffering severe sciatica pain and migraines during my last pregnancy without taking any meds. But then had an emergency induction at 42 weeks and got the epidural. I still feel like a failure for that.
How can I plan better this time? pain management wise? Also, we live very far away from family and I have no idea if DH will even be able to be in the hospital with me (he is my main support!) because he will be with our toddler. I had a doula last time but we are on one income now and dont know if it financially makes sense.

Thanks everyone!!!
