Ohhh no...we can't stand that the clover in our yard attracts little bunnies. It's cute the first time, and maybe the second time, but eventually you realize that you're contributing to their crazy reproduction plus the yard is just covered in patches of clover no matter how much you mow it.

@Maysprout: In DHs experience, it overtakes the lawn and chokes out the grass.

We've got clover in our yard, and it absolutely kills DH. Me, I couldn't care less, but it also doesn't bother me if the mower misses random tall pieces of grass/clover.

Haha, my DH is a psycho about the clover in our yard! It looks totally fine when it's just been mowed though!

DH is a little obsessed with our lawn, so he's done some research. Apparently, all the old timers aerate, it's when you poke little holes at the top of it using a tool or machine that you push with little spokes. He also sprinkles fresh potting soil or compost on it each year, sometimes twice a year.

Here's a brief summary of the benefits. http://realestate.msn.com/article.aspx?cp-documentid=25590385

We don't have it all clover, it's just mixed in with the grass seed to help nourish the grass, in our experience it does not choke out the grass.

@highwire: @2PeasinaPod: Do they not like the look or why don't they like it. It used to be included with all grass seed mixtures, it's just the herbicides nowadays kill all broad leafed plants (which includes clover) so it stopped being included.

Clover is my husband's kryptonite. He would die if someone intentionally planted that in his yard.

We're not homeowners, yet, but I love clover (it attracts wildlife, like rabbits and deer), so I'm hoping DH will keep it in the yard when we finally buy a house.

@swurlygurl: It's my MIL personal mission too. She was a bit horrified when I told her we were adding clover. But she was happy with the results, it really makes the lawn so much more low maintenance and helps get the grass to grow since it fixes nitrogen, it's like a built in natural fertilizer.

Haha, since it's DH's personal mission in life to get the clover OUT of our yard - no

It sure would be a lot easier/cheaper/better if he could just accept it!

Anyone else do this? We mix in clover with our grass seed and it's the only thing we found that allowed us to have a green yard without all the chemicals. We have a big shaded part and dogs and kids running around so our yard needs help.

Anyone else go the clover route or what do you do to keep a nice yard?
